Installation Instructions
Attaching tubing to pump outlet
Use the following method when only one water feature is being powered by the pump.
For maximum flow attach the larger tubing fitting (included with the pump).
3/4" or 1" ID
Loosely push hose clamp on tubing (clamp not included).
Push and twist tubing onto fitting.
For a more secure fit, use a stainless steel hose clamp.
Using the Fountain Set
Use this method when operating the Fountain Set and additional water feature or an external filter from the same pump.
Thread the proper adapter (included with Fountain Set) set into pump outlet.
Assemble diverter assembly onto adapter.
Fountain Spray and hose use:
Fountain stem and fountain head can be press-fit together to achieve desired height.
1/2" or 3/4" tubing can be attached to the barbed fitting on the diverter. Alternately, 1" tubing can be attached directly to the threaded diverter stem (horizontal outlet).
Secure tubing with hose clamp if needed.
Use flow control valve to regulate water between fountain spray and additional water features.
Fountain Head Tip
When using the fountain in very windy conditions, it is recommended that the fountain height be decreased to a minimum because large amounts of water can be lost from the pond due to water from the fountain spray being blown outside of the pond. Pump and fountain head should be positioned away from the sides of pond so that water will not be blown outside of the pond.
Fountain Clogging
The first thing that is likely to clog in the system is the fountain head. The head can easily be removed and cleaned.
Attaching Submersible Filter
Remove the pump cage (supplied with pump).
Thread the proper inlet hose fitting into the inlet of the pump (supplied with filter).
Attach tubing to pump inlet hose fitting (supplied with filter).
Attach filter fitting to other end of hose.
Thread filter fitting into filter.
Reducing Pump Clogging
Ponds typically contain various amounts of debris such as leaves, string algae and other plant material that can clog the intake of water garden pumps and fountain heads. The Submersible Filter Box can be easily attached to the intake of the pump. The sponge filter pads are ideal for cleaning smaller ponds and provide fine particle filtration that prevents the clogging of the pump impeller and the fountain's head.
Cleaning Fountain, Pump and Submersible Filter Tip: Fountain heads tend to clog up first. Remove and clean these first. Should the pump flow visibly decrease, it is time to clean the fountain, pump and or filters.
Unplug the pump from electrical outlet.
If pump cage is used, clear debris off pump cage. Re-assemble pump cage and plug pump back in to see if the problem is resolved.
Remove pump and submersible filter assembly from pond (Do not pull on electrical cord).
TetraPond Submersible Flat Box Filter: Remove lid and sponges from the Submersible Filter. Clean in bucket of pond water. Avoid using tap water which contains chlorine that can kill beneficial bacteria that have colonized in the filter sponges.
Cleaning the Pump
Look into impeller cover to see if impeller is clogged.
Flush with fresh water. Tip: Use garden hose nozzle.
If still clogged, remove impeller cover and carefully remove impeller assembly.
Flush impeller and impeller cavity with water.
Carefully reassemble pump, screens and filters.
Maintenance and Care Warning: Failure to carry out routine maintenance or leaving the pump under reduced or no flow conditions for long periods (for example with a blocked filter) will result in accelerated wear.
Note: Before carrying out any maintenance, pump must be disconnected from the electrical circuit. Do not lift the pump by the electrical cable since this may cause irreparable damage to the cable which cannot be replaced if damaged. Pick up by grasping the pump housing. Use only clean water to lubricate impeller assembly and shaft. Do not add lubricants.
Winter Care
If there is a danger of the water freezing, the equipment should be removed from the water, cleaned with water and stored in a frost-free location for the duration of the winter. If the pump is required to run throughout the winter, it is advisable to move it to shallower water (on a marginal shelf for example) to minimize disturbance to the fish resting in the warmer water, which collects at the bottom of the pond during the colder months.
Adverse Effects of Chlorine
Water with a high concentration of chlorine may degrade the sponge pre-filters used with this submersible filter. Please avoid adding chlorine to self-contained fountains. Most tap water has a low concentration of chlorine and will not significantly degrade these sponges. Chlorine should never be added to any water environment that contains plants or fish. Tap water should be treated with a water treatment to remove harmful chlorine and chloramines.
