Fish Mate Gravity UV and Bio Pond External Filters 8W Replacement Bulb for 800 GUV
We just purchased our second one of these. The first one lasted several years but for some reason the bulbs changed and the replacements won't fit in our old light. Anyway we figured it was time. We were without a filter for 2 weeks and our pond was becoming very murky and full of algae. Once we hooked up the new filter, the water was as clear as could be within 2 days. Last night i got in the pond to pull out all of the algae that normally collects on the bottom and sides and there was nothing! It even took care of the string algae! Love this filter, nothing beats UV for clearing up the algae. It's also easy to clean and maintain. You do need to change the bulb every year, even though it still lights up it doesn't work as well the next season.

Just what I was hoping for
We were having a lot of trouble keeping the water from turning green, could not see fish, old filter system was high maintenance, weekly had to remove filter from pond and clean out filters, messy and not friendly to fish.
I have had the new system for a few weeks and have not had to do anything, water is crystal clear, flow rate was more then I expected, having the filter out of the water will make it much easier to clean & maintain. Can't say enough about how good its working. All that's left is longevity, how long will the bulb & filter pump last???

This pond filter works great for my 100 gal pond where I have 4 small red ear sliders and 4 small koi fish. Together with a 2400 GPH pump, where I am diverting some of the water straight back into the pond, I achieve great oxygenation by the waterfall effect off the filter.
Had it only for couple of weeks, but seems to work just fine.

The BEST gravity filter I have used
Hands down the best gravity filter I have used. The added UV light really cleared up my pond water in a hurry - 3 days and it was crystal clear.
I have read some reviews that complain of leaking at the connections - ours leaked the first couple of days, just a steady drip, but it stopped leaking and hasn't leaked since (I think you just need some crud in the joint to make it watertight.) Could be engineered better, but hey as long as it works in the end.
One important thing to be aware of is to observe how the filter is put together when you get it. Always put it back like that when you are done cleaning the media, with the bio filter the last thing before the outlet. If you do not, as soon as the media plugs up, the filter will empty your pond at the rate of your pump. This is no joke - I put mine back together when I was very tired one night and reversed the filter array - I almost lost all my fish.
Other than that important detail which should maybe be noted as a warning in the owners' manual, the filter has performed just as advertised and my fish and plants are happy.
Be aware that you need to clean the filter media exactly as instructed in the manual to preserve its useful life. Also be prepared to clean frequently to ensure maximum filtration - in my 2000 gallon pond with the Fishmate 3000, I have to clean about every 48 hours (my pond is in a mostly shaded back yard with lots of plants and definitely a few dozen too many koi.) Fortunately cleaning the media is fast and easy - takes about 20 minutes and produces two buckets of liquid fertilizer for my flowers.
