Roudybush Low Fat Daily Maintenance Diet 44 oz Size: Crumbles
Roudybush low fat daily maintenance: Med size
My Cockatoo, Raja loves Roudybush Low Fat Maintenance Diet. He enjoys the crunch and leaves little behind in the dish. For a bird who came to us with a very poor diet, we were delighted when he took to this food. Raja now has feathers growing where we didn't think would grow. Our vet also was exceptionally happy to hear we included low fat Roudybush in his diet.
Thanks Roudybush, we have 12 birds and they all enjoy your foods.

Same quality product, but less fat means longer life for my parrot
CHANGING TO LOW-FAT PELLETS HAS SAVED MY PARROT FROM DEATH DUE TO FATTY LIVER DISEASE! PLEASE READ.
After 13 years of being called "bullet-proof" by my Avian Board- Certified Vet, my Pionus began showing a sign of fatty liver disease: fast growing beak and nails. He'd never had his beak trimmed until this year (early 2012) and needed it retrimmed 6 weeks after the initial trimming. I knew this wasn't normal and is considered a sign of liver damage so I took him in for the expensive blood work. Results showed elevated liver enzymes (abnormal AST levels) and that his cholesterol levels were almost 5 times higher than normal high (1480, with 300 being the high end of normal). The vet said this was likely a metabolic problem and immediately prescribed low-fat pellets sprinkled with L-carnitine (an amino acid that aids in fat digestion ) instead of the Maintenance formula pellets I've fed three parrots for >10 years. And they don't get seeds or fatty foods except for small portions of healthy seeds and nuts as occasional treats. Since Roudybush Maintenance Diet is one of the two pellets I serve the parrots daily, I was pleased to find a low-fat version of the Roudybush with only 3.3% fat and otherwise similar to the other formula. The cholesterol check three weeks later showed his levels almost half of the previous test. The vet said that the change in pellet formula and adding the supplement are clearly the correct path to take and that a recheck won't be needed for several months.
I appreciate Roudybush's pellets because they include the important Vitamin D3 (many pellets don't), have no artificial flavors/colors, and don't use preservatives except Vitamin E. My parrots enjoy Roudybush's natural apple flavor, and all three were weaned to this brand of pellets as babies.
Please take the diet of your birds seriously and don't feed them all-seed and nut diets as their regular food. Too many birds have drastically shortened life spans due to an unhealthy diet. And pay attention to changes in your birds that can signal unusual health issues such as my Pionus' fast growing beak and nails that suggest a metabolic problem in digesting fats.
