Exo Terra Mister Portable Pressure Sprayer

Let your bird shower until her heart's content with this large capacity sprayer. Exo Terra Spray Bottle Mister for Cage Birds makes it easy to give your bird a refreshing mist of water to encourage proper preening. This portable pressure mister eliminates the chore of trigger spraying and holds a whopping 2 liters of water, ideal for birds that enjoy a long, soothing shower. Adjust spray nozzle for either a single stream of water or full mist spraying to suit your bird's preference. Locking mechanism on the handle allows continuous spraying for added convenience.

Simply fill Spray Bottle Mister for Cage Birds with water and then pump the top several times to pressurize the sprayer. Hold down (or lock) the handle for a refreshing shower for your cage bird. Large-capacity, plastic reservoir holds 2 liters (67.5 fl oz) and measures 7" x 5" x 12-1/2" high.

1. Unscrew the cap assembly from the bottle.
2. Fill the bottle with fresh, clean, cool water. Do not completely fill, as the pressure system assembly displaces a certain amount of water once the cap is replaced on the bottle.
3. Replace the cap onto the bottle and close tightly.
4. Pump the Mister several times. Ensure each stroke of the pump handle is completely and rapidly pushed down or the unit will not fully pressurize. It is normal to feel an increase in resistance as the unit builds continual pressure as it is pumped.
5. To operate, depress the thumb lever. If desired, this lever can be "locked" into position by sliding the Thumb Lock towards the bottle. Before using the mister on your bird, make sure the nozzle is set to provide mist, not single stream release of the water. Try on your hand first to ensure the pressure is not too great for your bird.
6. Unlock the thumb lever when the bottle is not in use.
7. When finished using, slowly unscrew the bottle top to release any remaining pressure.

To avoid calcium and mineral deposit buildup, use distilled or soft water in the Exo Terra Mister. Clean with nontoxic cleaner and rinse thoroughly before using. Run clean warm water through all components as part of your cleaning regimen. If using tap water that is chlorinated, treat first with a chlorine-removing product such as Neutralize (#28349). Mister is not intended for use with chemicals or poisons. Do not leave in extreme heat when pressurized. Do not aim or point directly at your bird's face.

Getting your bird used to the Mister
If you've never misted your bird before, he or she may be apprehensive about it at first. Try slowly working it into your daily routine and gauge how your pet reacts. If your bird is frightened by the spray bottle at first, leave the bottle by his cage for a few days so he can adjust to this new object. Mist yourself with the bottle to show your pet how wonderful and soothing it is. When you finally use the mister on your bird, offer a special treat afterward, to help him associate positively to his daily "shower."

Aside from the fact that many birds enjoy a good spritz, misting can promote healthy preening of the feathers, leading to reduced instances of feather picking and plucking, Misting can also help moisten and invigorate your bird's skin. Misting is especially important to birds that are molting, as it can help loosen the keratin sheath that covers new pin feathers. This makes it easier for your bird to remove this sheath during normal preening behavior. Misting can also help improve the health of their respiratory systems. Captive birds in the home are often deprived of humidity in the air that would normally be in their natural environments. Replacing some of this humidity by misting your pet and his enclosure each day can help ensure that your bird's lungs stay as healthy as possible.
