I have used this feeder a number of times without any problems. The fish do like to feed from the blocks.

LOVE THESE!
I use these to feed my plecos when I'm not around to give them fresh veggies. They don't break down without help from the fish and don't foul the water like some veggie tablets I've used. They make my "away" weekends worry free!

Good for Most of My Fish
Most of my fish like it and it doesn't cloud the water. I use it as a weekend feeder and it works pretty well for me.

Not sure of effectiveness
I have 3 aquariums and went out of town for 10 days. I used the 14-day blocks. When I returned, three were completely devoured in my large aquarium; it may have been due to a large catfish. In my two smaller aquariums, they looked almost the same...as if almost nothing was eaten. Perhaps this is better for bottom feeders and scavengers. My fish were all still alive, so I am not sure if they were eating it or not. I have an auto feeder also on the large tank; I think these are the safest route...or a combination.
