i believe there is something wrong with this paticular item.
I found this hydrometer reading to be at least 5 points higher than my older hydrometer. I do believe this reflects something wrong with this particular one and not the rest of the stock. Will take a water sample to my local fish store and have them check it to compare. Will then have to return this for a replacement.

Had a slow leak at base.
Seems to be a fine product for the price except mine leaks. The leak appears to be at the base. Would have recommended it had it not leaked.
The key to getting consistent and accurate readings are:
1) If you are measuring multiple tanks (reef, fish & quarantine tanks) like I am it might be wise to rinse with fresh water between tanks. Then rinse once with the tank water to be measure. Than finally fill to the line again with the tank water to be measured.
2) This is key: Find a LEVEL surface to take measurement. Use same location for all future measurements.
3) Make sure no bubbles are attached to pointer. Gently tap to dislodge.

not very accurate
i tested mine against a refractometer and it was reading .004 low. in order to have my water at 1.025 where i wanted if for my reef meant the hydrometer needed to read 1.021.
if you can check it against a refractometer and know how it reads its easy and will always give you consistent readings. i suggest the instant ocean hydrometer as the few i have used have been accurate.
