I have had a few pumps in my day however after getting a chiller finding a return pump that would creat enough flow and make no noise became a problem. I originally had a quite one return pump and never heard it but after the chiller it was time to upgrade to another quite one pump that did more water movement. When I got the pumps in (tried 2 maybe one was defective) they both made allot of noise! It destroyed the peaceful ambiance of my Aquirium, it was a consistent hum of harmonics that even could be heard on a different level of my home. Tried the sicce next and quiet as could be. It has a different style impeller that I can say contributed to its success. All in all this is the right pump for water movement 450+ gph.

Ok so I bought this pump but overlooked the head pressure to start. I ended up doing the math. 228 gallons per hour of water volume with 4.75 ft head pressure and 90 gallons per hour running through a carbon reactor attached through a manifold is what I have hooked up. Not including gear I haven't hooked up yet. (Calcium reactor and U.V. sterilizer) Well with all that said, and nothing attached to the manifold this pump gets 2.4 times an hour flow rate with that head pressure and 2.16 times with just the carbon reactor. Other than that It is a very quiet pump, just a little hum is all I hear. It is however also very convenient that it comes with adaptors for non-rigid tubing, and can hook up to one inch schedule 40 pvc adaptors if you do not need the included ones. Perhaps if you had a shorter aquarium set up than mine this may be enough turnover. So far this pump has been used for numerous applications for over 6 months now. Being used as both non-continuous use and continuous use with out a problem. Just make sure you equate for head pressure unlike how I didn't in the beginning.

These pumps don't have the head pressure nor do they last. It's only been a few months and even with keeping it clean it's starting to fail.
