Please note: Koralia Controllable Pumps are a precision piece of aquarium equipment and will only work with Koralia Controllers. We will not accept, credit, or replace altered Koralia Controllable Pumps.
Installation Attention: Before operating the Koralia Controllable Pump, please verify that all components are undamaged, especially the cord. Before any kind of maintenance or intervention, ALWAYS disconnect electrical supply of any appliance placed in the water. Make sure to position the Koralia Wavemaker Pump Controller in a safe and dry place. It should be protected from accidental water splashes, humidity, moisture, and calcium/salt deposits in order to prevent any accidental electrical shock.
Position the desired number of Hydor Koralia Controllable Pumps (any controllable model - Nano, 1, 2, 3, or 4.) in the aquarium. Make sure the Koralia Controllable Pumps are completely underwater to prevent potential harm to aquarium inhabitants or splashing water.
Apply the Anti-Electromagnetic Interference Magnet on the pump cords.
Apply the Anti-Slip Supports on the bottom of the Koralia Wavemaker Controller.
Connect the pumps to the Koralia Wavemaker Controller, making sure that the connectors are inserted properly in the slot and the terminals click into place.
Connect the Koralia Wavemaker Controller to the power supply.
Turn on the Koralia Wavemaker Controller by bringing the On/Off switch to the "I" position.
Moments after the Koralia Wavemaker Controller is turned on, the controller will carry out standard systems check (approximately 15 seconds) to make sure that all components are ready. All LEDs will light up and pumps will start at the "Alternate Flow" mode.
Set the Koralia Wavemaker Controller to better suit the needs of the aquarium by turning the Pulse/Flow/Timer knob and the "minimum" and "maximum" flow power knobs. Make sure the "minimum" and maximum" are never set equal. The "maximum" power should always be more than the "minimum" power setting.
Alternate Flow Mode
When turned on, the Koralia Wavemaker Controller starts automatically in the Alternate Flow Mode. Each pump starts one at a time at maximum power and then follows the program set by the hobbyist. Interval between alternating times can be from a minimum of 2 seconds to a maximum of 6 hours. Switching time between the two pumps is 0.5 seconds.
Synchronous Flow Mode
To set the Synchronous Flow Mode, press the SET button on the front panel for 10 seconds. After a few seconds, depending on the set minimum and maximum power, the pumps will start together at maximum flow and then, both at the same time they will slow down. If the mode is set properly, the following visual signal appears:
Red LED under the SET button of the Wavemaker turns on.
The Red LED will then turn off.
The 2 Blue LED lights above the pump connections turn on.
To return to the Alternate Flow Mode, press the SET button for 10 seconds or reset the Wavemaker by turning it off (switch on back panel).
Food Mode
When feeding fish and especially invertebrates, it is advisable to set the pumps on "Hold." To set this mode, simply press the SET button briefly until you hear a click. The Blue LEDs indicate the pumps are on minimum power while 2 quick flashes indicate the unit is in the Food Mode. The pumps will remain in the Food Mode for 5 minutes. To end the Food Mode before the default 5 minutes are up, simply press the SET button. The pumps will go back to the previously programmed mode.
Night Mode
Many hobbyists prefer more gentle water movement in reef aquariums during the night. The Koralia Wavemaker Night Mode can be set manually to switch pump function to minimum power. To set manually, press SET button for approximately 3 seconds. The Red LED should turn on to indicate Night Mode function. To turn off the program, press the SET button briefly.
Maintenance
The Koralia Wavemaker does not require any particular maintenance procedure, but it is advisable to clean the unit and the area around it from dust and any other debris to prevent any potential malfunctions.
An important component of a natural environment is water movement. Corals and invertebrates need irregular currents for both feeding and waste removal. Wavemakers have been developed to meet this need by imitating ocean currents in the aquarium.
A crucial - and often overlooked - aspect of keeping a reef aquarium is water movement. Proper water movement goes a long way toward helping a reef system thrive. Corals and other reef inhabitants are accustomed to rapid, constant water movement.
Water current is essential to nourish and feed your aquarium's inhabitants, as well as clean and regulate your aquarium's water. In addition, poor water movement hinders biological filtration, which in turn, raises toxins to dangerous levels.
Please note: Return of electrical equipment to Drs. Foster & Smith for exchange or refund is limited to 60 days from the date of purchase. Beyond 60 days, please contact the manufacturer for repair or replacement as covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
