FilStar 20 Pores Per Inch Foam
Coarse foam pads filter large particles like food and plant fragments. Special open-cell design for free water flow. XP1 requires 1 foam, XP2, XP3, and XP4 require 2 foams.

FilStar 30 Pores Per Inch Foam
Fine foam pads filter fish waste and other fine particles. Special open-cell design for free water flow. XP1 requires 1 foam, XP2 and XP3 require 2 foams, and XP4 requires 6 foams.

FilStar Micro-Filtration Pads
Remove extremely fine waste, sediment and particles from water, making it crystal clear. Change pad at least once a month.

FilStar Progressive Micro-Filtration Pads
Innovative mechanical filtration pad features two visible layers that progress from coarse to fine. Efficiently traps coarse and fine waste particles and resists clogging to maintain even water flow. Place in last position in filter. Change pad at least once a month.

Filtration Pads Coarse Foam 6 pk 4.9 5 7 7

good product easy to use I have 6 of the ExP filters and have been using them for years. I have had other canister filters and have not been this pleased. Great filter easy to use and does a good job. Keeps my water crystal clear I would recommend this to anyone. March 10, 2013

from bottom to top 1st- 2-foam 20, 2-foam 30
2nd-bio-chem stars
3rd-bio-chem zorb,nitra-zorb,phos-zorb,super activated carbon or zeolite amonia remover
4th-micro-filtration or progressive micro-filtration
i have the xp4 setup on a 150 gallon freshwater and for the 4th basket i add extra media for cloudy water and nitrate,amonia removal.

Answer:

Thank you for your questions. The order of the media does not need to be in any particular order. We recommend that the chemical media be on the bottom, biological media in the middle, and the mechanical be on the top. If using a coarse and fine filter pads the course should be on top of the fine pads. cjm
