Tetra SafeStart PLUS 3.38 oz
Would not have an aquarium without this product!
I was one of those moms who was thrust into aquarium ownership by my daughter who "won" two goldfish at the fair. Little did I know what I was getting into. We tried the Goldfish bowl for a few days, but quickly realized that changing the water every 24-48 hours was not going to work well for our busy family. When I started researching aquariums online, I found out about the nitrogen cycle and nearly had a heart attack. By this time, both of my girls were extremely attached to the goldfish, so I kept researching and came across Tetra SafeStart. It had mixed reviews, but those that loved the product were very passionate about it. I thought it certainly couldn't hurt. We got the aquarium up and running in about 24 hours, then added Tetra SafeStart, and then the fish about 15 minutes later, and they've been swimming around happily ever since. I never had a nitrite or ammonia spike over the course of the nitrogen cycle, which took about three and a half weeks. In fact, I've never had an ammonia or nitrite spike, even when changing the water, in almost a year now. I change the water every 10 days and add a little SafeStart each time, ensuring my bacteria colonies are strong. The main thing to remember about this product is to follow the instructions on the bottle to the letter. And shake, shake, shake that bottle before you add it to the aquarium.

This product can jump start your tank cycle
I originally bought two small bottles from a local store. Used them as the directions stated but as I was testing the water noticed nothing was changing. I tried again by ordering a large bottle online because I had a feeling the ones sitting on the local fish store shelf was there too long. After receiving the new bottle, added it to the filter and within 2 days I noticed a change in the water testing. I also stopped using stress zyme (different bacteria not meant to cycle a tank) while using this product to make sure there was no competition for space for the bacteria, since the nitrifying bacteria need room to establish. Just keep an eye on the fish and if they seem stressed, add the stress zyme. Once tank started cycling it finished in just over 2 weeks, though your results will vary due to tank composition.
Please note I have a 20gal tank with 8 goldfish (I found out the tank is too small but that's what the local store originally told me to do, I'm making a pond for these guys so they'll have a bigger home) some live plants (anubias & java fern) and hard wood. Also due to the volume they move, I'm sure ordering this stuff online you will get fresh product than something that has been sitting on the local store shelf for a year.

Probably best bacterial supplement I have tried. I have tried seachem stability, cycle, and colony by atm. This product wa sthe one that worked for me. But you have to follow instructions from its website that are not on the bottle. You cannot use Safe Start to clear high ammonia levels. Safe Start is living bacteria that can be killed by already present high levels of ammonia, just like the fish can. You have to do partial water changes to reduce the ammonia levels down to below 2.0. Once they are less than this, you can add the Safe Start and it will finish removing the ammonia, and establish your biological filter for you. Keep in mind, this will take up to a week for it to complete.
wait 24 hrs after water change to add safe start. if levels don't go down after a couple days the product is not working. Last 1 year unopened. Lasts 6 months opened tightly closed lid. In a new tank, we recommend two weeks before performing a water change after tetra safe start is added. In an established tank where you might be trying to just re-seed after medicating or something, one week. So in your case, two weeks or now.Yes, it could. When online companies ship it, they typically use ice packs, etc, to adjust the temperature and keep it stable. It is safe between 40 degrees and 85 degrees Fahrenheit.Yes, there is an expiration date on the bottom of each bottle. Also, only feed once every three days for the first month, 1 to 2 pieces of food per fish. Only change 5 gal at a time diluting it. slowly, then check ammonia levels to be less than 2.0 ppm.

absolutely important when you set up a new tank. great product.
put prewashed gravel in the tank, fillup the tank ,i used prime to remove all the bad elements from the water then i used a full bottle of tetra's safe start. ran filter over night. gave few hours to clear the water and released 10 medium size angels( fresh water).Absolutely no problems for those angels, start eating frozen brine shrimps rightaway. Less than 12 hours total time from garvel to angels.
