Great item, easy to use and easy to clean. I use it without removing any fish from my tank! The gravel cleaner works very well and removes only a tenth of the aquarium volume while doing a very thorough job. The flow direction control valves work well and are easy to manage with one hand. Make sure to buy some extra hose (helps give you more working room). Also might want to use a 5 gallon bucket for outflow so you don't have to pay attention to two ends at the same time. Best tool ever, for about only twice the price of an algae magnet.

I've used the JBJ on a 30 and 20 gal tanks with limited success. Most of the time the starter bulb isn't enough to start a syphon going. One must use your mouth and squeeze the bulb a few times. It has good suction once it is going. The parts are heavy duty but the scraper tools are not sharp enough to get algae off the glass. The ball cocks are too stiff to work with one hand but are leak free.

In all fairness, the scrapers work well. But it comes with a very short hose. The when the siphon gets sand in it it does not work. I'm sure this is fine for gravel, it does not seem suited for sand. The valves are stiff, and there is no possible way to make sure the end of the hose doesn't fall out of the bucket while you are fiddling with them (note to JBJ: add a hose clip for buckets). It is a three-handed too. I kept the scrapers and threw the rest out. Waste of money. And finally: they "stylish stow-away case" is the cardboard box it came in.
