The result is "polished" aquarium water with higher water quality and clarity. Internal pump design allows quick start up and virtually silent operation. Mechanical Filtration - Aqueon patented dual-sided replaceable dense-floss cartridges filter out more particles and debris.
Chemical Filtration - Aqueon patented cartridges contain more activated carbon to remove toxic impurities, odors, and discoloration.
Biological Filtration - Patented Bio-Holster collects beneficial bacteria to eliminate more toxic ammonia and nitrite.
Stationary Wet/Dry Filtration - "Water Polisher " Grid further filters and "super charges" the water with extra oxygen, creating additional non-stop biological filtration. The Grid also makes the water return exceptionally quiet.
Quiet Operation - The UL listed pump is safely submerged into the water to provide leak-proof, silent operation.
High Flow Rate - A higher flow rate runs water through the filter more times per hour to increase filtration and oxygenation for more active, healthier fish.
Self-Priming Pump - The auto-start pump requires no priming (pouring water into unit before powering) to eliminate messy spills - even if the power goes off.

Installation Instructions
STEP 1: Check filter for any signs of shipping damage. If damaged, do not operate and return.
STEP 2: Remove new cartridge from bag and rinse under cold water to remove carbon dust.
STEP 3: Install cartridge. Biological Cartridge Holster and cartridge must face forward.
STEP 4: Install filter on aquarium. Plug power cord into household receptacle. Filter will begin to draw water into filter through cartridge and return it to the aquarium.
Maintenance Filter Cartridge:
Using Finger Tab on cartridge, remove used cartridge from filter and discard.
Remove new cartridge from bag and rinse under cold water to remove carbon dust.
Install new cartridge and replace cover. NOTE: Do not discard Biological Cartridge Holster.
Pump:
Unplug filter and remove from aquarium.
Carefully remove Filter Tube from Filter Tube Plate.
Carefully remove filter pump from filter body by pressing release tab.
Separate and clean all parts including impeller.
Rinse thoroughly and re-install.

More Stages and Filtering Capacity
Aqueon Power Filters feature four stages of filtration - mechanical, chemical, biological, and wet/dry - for the clearest, cleanest oxygen-enriched water. Patented Aqueon dual-sided replaceable dense-floss cartridges contain over 25% more activated carbon than the leading brands and have been designed to ensure even distribution of carbon throughout.
Higher Flow Rates
Aqueon Power Filters have higher flow rates than the competition to ensure the proper turnover for cleaner water and higher dissolved oxygen content, making fish healthier and more active.
Superior Biological Filtration
The patented Biological Grid has a large surface area to support more of the beneficial bacteria that eliminates ammonia and nitrite. A second Wet/Dry Grid provides further biological filtration and oxygenation as the water returns to the aquarium.
New Internal Pump Design
Since the filter pump is submersed in the aquarium, there is no need for priming at setup or when restarting the filter after cleaning or power interruptions. An internal pump also allows for virtually silent operation, continuous flow rates, less chance for leaks and physically, a much thinner profile.
3-Step Cartridge Replacement
Carefully remove cover from the filtration unit.
Remove used cartridge from Bio-Holster. Push down gently on the Bio-Holster and pull the tab on the filter cartridge upwards. Discard used filter cartridge. Bio-Holster should not be removed or cleaned, as it contains living beneficial bacteria.
Rinse new cartridge under cold water to remove carbon dust. Insert new cartridge into Bio-Holster by aligning the key slot on the cartridge with the key slot on the Biological Grid.
Replace cover on filtration unit. Note: The cover will not fit properly if filter cartridge is installed incorrectly.
Cartridges should be replaced when water begins to enter the filter bypass and/or the cartridge becomes clogged. Cartridges should be changed every 4 to 6 weeks.
