Whisper EX Power Filter EX20
EX45 top rank product
Since the 1970s I have fondly kept fish in tanks from 2.5 gallon to 135 gallon along with the occasional plastic garbage can. For several years now I have used two EX-45 filters on a 40 gallon 'breeder' tank with six jumbo goldfish. >>>The filter is very well designed and highly effective.<<< It performs best with frequent change-outs of the filter pad. By shopping carefully the cost of the pads can be minimized. A couple of times a year the 'bio-sludge' portion of the filter fills completely and needs to be emptied. You can tell it is time for a 'sludge' clean-out when the rate of water flow drops. After removing the 'sludge' it is vital to use a microbial nitrification supplement. Otherwise the microbial supplement is important after the weekly or biweekly water change-out.

This is great and it filters the water very quietly and efficiently. It's about five feet away from my bed and it's perfectly fine. But whenever I stop the. Filter and it drys in the back and then I plug it in again it rattles around and maked a lot of noise for about a day but then it's fine. This filter also puts oxygen in the water if the water level is kinda low but I have two goldfish (dirty fish) in a ten gallon tank and I am planning to get more fish of different species and since this is recommended for 20 gallon tanks it will keep my tank twice as clean lol I hope overall a great filter and it works fantastic.

Simple and quiet
I purchased this product to provide QUIET filtering on a 20 gallon tank in my living room. I originally purchased a smaller Marineland power filter because it was a few $$$ less expensive, but it sounded like someone had started a Harley in my apartment, so I quickly exchanged it for the Whisper. As the name implies, it is extremely quiet. I can hardly hear the filter going when all is quiet in the apartment, and don't notice it at all when the TV is on.
Maintnenace is also a breeze with this filter. I had no experience with Tetra products and was pleasantly surprised when I discovered their filter type. With the quick release hinged filter carrier, you never have to touch a dirty, nasty filter with your hands. This is a definite plus in my opinion. I also feel the filter life indicator is a nice touch, although it just lets you know when to change the filter based on time rather than efficiency. Still, nice to have.
Overall, an excellent filter that has a decent water output, great filtration, simple maintenance, and is QUIET!

GOOD filter system
I have both the EX20 and EX30 filters in my tank, and they do an awesome job at keeping my aquarium water clean. It features mechanical, chemical, and biological filtration...plus, changing the filter media couldn't be any easier! Plus, there's no priming involved...just plug it in and it starts working on its own. My only issue is that the filter media could be less expensive, but fortunately Dr.'s F&S carries them at one of the lowest prices around! Overall, I'd recommend this filter to anyone looking for a no-hassle aquarium filtration system.
