Hikari Aquarium Solutions Bacto-Surge Foam Filter Small
My tank finally cleared up
My 55 gallon tank has two filters in and still cloudy. I put this filter in and finally the tank has cleared up.

I ordered the small Bacto-Surge foam filter for my 10-gallon bare-bottomed fry tank and I must say, I am very pleased! It does a great job of keeping the tank clean as well as providing gentle water movement and aeration. I was worried that the current might be too strong on day-old fry, especially since it is rated for up to 40 gallons, but it is perfect. It also provides a good amount of aeration without the need for an airstone.
I was also a bit concerned that a sponge filter would float, especially since I have no substrate to weigh it down, but the weighted base works perfectly so long as I squeeze the sponge underwater a few times to get the air out.
I am very pleased with this purchase, and the filter seems to be of excellent quality at a very affordable price! I just wish you could buy replacement sponges for these.
As a bonus, the filter came with a couple bags of sample food: tropical pellets and algae wafers!

Inexpensive but well-made.
Very happy with the sponge filters. They work great in my BETTA tanks. Î was surprised how well-made they were for the price.

These sponge's offer a very large surface area for mechanical as well as biological filtration. Material is dense, but does not clog easily as other's seem to do. In my opinion, these sponge's are only surpassed by fliudized filters for ammonia/nitrate removal capability. Can be used as pre-filters for canister or power filter intakes, or with powerheads as well as air pumps. Stay's in place and is easy to clean,-nice product for fry, shrimp, or discus tanks. Drs. Foster/Smith is a great site to get almost all your needs for fresh or salt tanks.
