Excellent Product
I recently purchased this product and attached it to my Aquaclear 50 HOB filter. I am extremely pleased with the product and it works perfectly for my need. It requires a little adjusting to set the skimmer at the right speed. I could not run it on the skimmer alone as my filter had too much draw, causing the skimmer to drop below the surface of the water, also can make a loud gurgling sound if turned up too high. After running the skimmer for a few hours, there was a noticeable change in the surface of the water. Gas exchange was much more efficient, and the surface lacked the usual oily film.
On the downside, which comes with the better gas exchange, I have a much higher evaporation rate in my tank. Overall, I enjoy this product and am glad that I bought and use this product.

Solved my problem instantly
When I changed to a canister filter for my 75 gallon salt water reef aquarium the surface water became cloudy with a "film". By adding the surface skimmer to the water uptake hose the film disappeared in minutes; never to return. The installation was super easy.

Great Product
One of these will be in every one of my tanks. It can keep the surface of even very large tanks crystal clear. Its suction line is quite small and if you add a small pvc tee into your main suction line all your clarity problems go by the wayside. The unit pulls water in at both the surface and its bottom screen and is adjustable above the water line so that you can get just the right balance at the surface no matter how much suction is available. comes with 2 adaptors to easily fit 3/4" or 1"pvc or with a 1/2" cpvc coupling you can quickly be running in a small tank. With a little thinking you can attach to many different types of external filters. Any type of oily residue from fish food or floating debris from planted tanks finds its way into the canister filter. Really helps the water clarity in my Discus tanks.

The BEST thing for surface cleaning!
If you have problems with the surface of your water, do not hesitate to buy this product!!
We had a freshwater set-up with this built in to our over-the-back filter. We LOVED this feature!
Recently, we upgraded to a 55 gallon saltwater set-up with a different type of filtration. We just could not get rid of the surface muck. Everything I read stated to get the surface water moving, etc. etc., but it was still there...tank healthy, but still there....and blocking light...and looking bad!
My husband took the skimmer off the old filter and rigged it himself! I was thinking, "what a wonderful gadget...Foster & Smith should make these and market them individually!".
Needless to say, I found this today and laughed and am THRILLED they offer this product. And at a great price too!
F&S--you really should market this more! So many people would love it!!
