So far my new tank set up has no algae problem, but in the past I have had such trouble. I was told it could be due to high phosphates, so I wanted to test for it. Called the Municiple water and they add .25 ppm to our water. My tank reads .50 ppm -that is high. The additional phosphates are from the food, etc. I have some live plants that are most likely using this nutrient, therefor minimizing algae growth for now. But, if it gets out of hand I also have a product to absorb the access phosphates.

Rated 5 out of 5 there is a lot of tests in that little bottle
The color span of the test results is very easy to read. I like the round test vial. You can just hold your finger over the top to get it below the surface for a more mid range reading. As with most tests surface water tends to skew results.

Kit seems to test the phosphate levels ok. It's a little bit hard to tell the difference in some of the colors on the card that they provide, but other than that it works as intended.

I like API test kits because they give you much more reagents then other brands. Their kits are easy to use, however, they are not for advanced hobbiest who likes very exacting readouts. The end color in your test vile is hard to match to the color index provided in the kit as with most kits using a color card. For quick tests I like it just fine and would recommend it as such.
