Eheim Pro 3E 2076 has 3 media baskets while the 2078 has 4. Each media basket holds 2 liters of filter media. The 2076 requires 2 liters of Ehfimech and 4 liters of Ehfisubstrat Pro. The 2078 requires 2 liters of Ehfimech and 6 liters of Ehfisubstrat Pro. All units come with one blue and one white filter media pad.

Quick Installation Guide
Set the Locking Lever to "OFF" position and press the Adapter Bar until the Safety Adapter disengages.
Open the Locking Clips by pulling the lower edge of the clips.
Remove the Pump Head.
Remove all Filter Inserts (Filter Media Baskets).
Fill the lowest Filter Insert with Eheim Ehfimech (item #400984). Note: Do not overfill Filter Inserts.
Fill the middle Filter Inserts with Eheim Ehfisubstrat Pro (item #12876). Note: The number of Filter Inserts will vary depending on the particular model.
Rinse the filled Filter Inserts with water.
Re-insert the Filter Insert in the filter canister.
Place the White Filter Pad in the Top Filter Insert.
Place the Cover Grating on the White Filter Pad.
Insert the Pre-filter with the Blue Filter Pad.
Attach the Pump Head while observing the fitting position and close the Locking Clips.
Attach the Hose Accessories (Intake and Return System) to the aquarium. Note: Be sure to use original Eheim Hoses.
Cut the Hoses to length in accordance with the clearance between the filter and the aquarium and then attach to the Intake and Return system.
Secure ends of the Hoses onto the Safety Adapter.
Attach the Hose Locking fittings onto the Hoses.
Push the Safety Adapter into the Pump Head until it audibly latches.
Set the Locking Lever to "ON" position.
Make sure the Nozzle Pipe is suspended above the water surface.
Rapidly press the Priming Lever several times consecutively until the body of the canister filter automatically fills with water. Note: No water should be present in the Pre-filter.
Insert the Power Supply Unit into the Pump Head.
Plug in power cable.
Once power is supplied to the unit, it will start the automatic, self-bleeding process to release any trapped air. This may take several minutes. To accelerate the self-bleeding process, press the Priming Lever several times. The filter will then start the automatic self-calibration process.
