Pre-Filter Filter-Max I
Best pre-filter to put on all HOB and Canister filters.
I use this on my HOB & Canister filters to have fewer contaminants put back into my filters and keep the media inside less likely to be changed so often. Once a week or as many times as needed you simply disconnect this device and make sure you shut off your filter's so you don't get any small fish inhaled through your filter tube or inverterbrae. I rinse once a week with my weekly maintenance and simply rinse out the sponge under warm tap water and insert this device back into my tank. I then turn on the fiter to keep my aquarium clean and give it that extra polishing and help in my filter not to trap any baby fry, small shrimp or even snails get trapped in the filters that it is used for. Its simple to set up and even easier to keep clean. Best of all helps you to not trap your smaller fish and or inverterbraes and keep your aquarium filter maintenance to a minimum. Love this product as you will to would recommend to a friend or other hobbiest.

Works well to keep small fish, shrimp and snails out of the main filter.

This sponge filter is excellent it has almost every kind of attachments that connect to powerheads hob filter and probably could attach it to a canister filter.
It doesnt have an airline attachment for me that was a pro if your looking for a stand alone sponge filter there is enough space to drop an airstone down the middle.

Bigger than I envisioned
I have a 4 gallon freshwater shrimp tank and needed something to protect the shrimp fry from being sucked into my HOB filter. This filter had very good reviews and was recommended by other shrimp keepers. I picked the smallest size offered and checked the measurements so I knew it would fit into my pico tank. It did physically fit but it was visually huge in my tank and actually interfered with some of my live plants (my tank is heavily planted) . I reluctantly replaced it with a tubular mesh filter intake guard which is safe for the shrimp and is more unobtrusive. It doesn't have the benefist of filtering out even minute particles and of being a wonderful home for beneficial bacteria but I have a well established tank so these are not issues for me. I'm really sorry I couldn't use the Max I - hopefully you can.
