Keep toxic ammonia at bay with high-quality zeolite filter media. Cobalt Zeolite Filter Media is a must-have chemical filter media for freshwater aquariums that commonly experience ammonia spikes. Ammonia buildup due to heavily stocked aquariums, overfeeding or large, messy carnivorous fish can quickly create a harmful aquatic environment. Use Cobalt Zeolite Filter Media to remove ammonia as well as odors and heavy metals.
Cobalt Aquatics Zeolite Filter Media is great for use with freshwater aquariums. 10.6 oz jar includes a media bag for easy use and replacement.

Improve Aquarium Water Quality with Chemical Filter Media
Chemical filtration is the simplest way to remove these potentially dangerous pollutants from fresh and saltwater systems. There is a variety of chemical filter media available. Most chemical media remove specific pollutants from the water column while others are combined to create multi-functional chemical filter media that simplify removal of multiple pollutants.
Zeolite
Zeolite is a mineral-based media with porous composition. It differs from other chemical filter media in that it specifically absorbs and removes ammonia and other nitrogenous compounds from freshwater aquariums. As an added benefit, many forms of zeolite can rapidly reduce large concentrations of ammonia from the water column. Some forms can also be soaked in saltwater to recharge their absorptive abilities for reuse within your aquarium filter. It is available in both natural and synthetic forms. While primarily used for freshwater applications, special zeolite media is also available for marine aquariums. |
| 1. Mechanical | | Mechanical filtration can greatly improve the health of most aquariums, and is also important for the efficiency of your biological filtration. The process is simple: mechanical media strains solid debris. |
| | 2. Biological | | Biological filtration is the action of bacteria breaking down dangerous ammonia, converting it to nitrite, and then converting nitrite to less toxic nitrate. This article discusses how the process works. |
| | 3. Chemical | | While most aquarists agree biological filtration is imperative for your aquarium's health, not all agree that mechanical and chemical filtration is absolutely necessary. |
| | Combination Chemical Filter Media | | Aquarium filter media are usually grouped into three basic categories: mechanical, chemical, and biological filtration. Hybrid filter media are becoming more common as aquarium hobbyists expect more from their equipment and filter media. |
