Fluval C-Series Power Filters C2
Love this filter!
Adjustable water flow, multi stage filtration, is like a canister filter that hangs on the back. Very easy to use and clean. It has really cleared up my water and works great. I have the C3 on my 55 gallon with two other cheap smaller filters. Going to be replacing the other two cheapos with a C2 soon. Always get more filtration then manufacture recommendation.

First things first. This is a great filter. It does the job it's meant to do and does it well. The flow design greatly reduces bypass and cleans the water better than conventional hang on the back power filters that use a cartridge that stands vertically allowing chemical media to settle towards the bottom and doesn't clean the water that flows through the upper portions of the cartridge. Water will follow the path of least resistance. Fluval solved that issue with this hob. They have basically made a canister filter that has the ease and size of a hob power filter.
I have a C4 and have replaced the carbon with Chemi-Pure. Love that stuff and it not only works better but lasts a whole lot longer than carbon. The adjustable flow rate is great for feeding time if you have more delicate fish that move a little slower allowing them the chance to catch the food before it gets sucked into the filter.
Very unobtrusive in the aquarium. The upper portion of the intake tube is clear and transparent. The actual tube is dark but can easily be hidden behind ornaments.
Large media area. You can use just about any type of chemical media you want if you use a media bag. Customize it to suit your specific needs. You can even modify the intake strainer tube by adding a sponge filter to it. ( I have not tried it personally but I have a friend that did that with his and swears by it. It catches smaller particulate before it even gets into the filter and acts as an additional bacterial media.)
The only real draw backs to these filters is not having a bio-wheel or some other kind of wet dry bio filtration. And not having a model that has a 400 gallon an hour flow rate.

very high quality, works great
I agree with the other positive reviews here - this is the best filter I've tried. I like everything about it. There are 3 separate chambers, one for carbon, one for the foam filter, and one for growing the good bacteria needed to keep the tank cycling. In my previous filter the biologic section was immersed; in this filter they designed it so this stage is above water. The foam filter is much larger and has a huge surface area compared to most filters. There is even a pop-up pressure indicator to let you know when the foam filter needs rinsing. Best of all is that you don't need to remove all of the filter elements to rinse it, the foam section lifts right out separately.
There have been some comments that the filter flow indicator is too sensitive - I haven't had it long enough to know yet, but it looks like it would be easy to add a little weight to it.

Best Power Filter
I have spent a bit of time examining this filter to learn how it functions. I must say this has to be the most well thought-out design for a hanging filter. Asides from being a little more expensive (well justified), I can't think of negatives.
Water drawn from tank is split between two separate paths, and then recombined before returning to tank. Both paths have a mechanical filter followed by your choice of biological or absorptive (e g, charcoal) filter. All of this is fitted into a compact space, and yet allows easy removal for cleanings.
Water flow rate is adjusted by changing the amount of water re-circulated at the pump rather than by attenuating pump flow. Sounds complicated but is really simple.
I can't comment on durability of this built-in pump, but can say from past experiences with Fluval pumps have all been good.
