Simple-----It Works!
Nothing much to report here, as with all Dr. Tim’s products, it
works as advertised. I have, and continue to use this product
each and every time I add new fish to my tanks. I dose the whole
aquarium first but also mix a small amount into the fish bag water as the fish are being acclimated into their new environment. I haven’t had any problems will new arrivals since using it.

Foam foam foam
I purchased this as I was planning some modifications to the plumbing and thought this would help ease the shock. I added about 1/4 of the recommended amount to my sump (160 gal tank with approx 50 or so for sump and refuge). Within 5 minutes of adding the product the foam that was generated knocked to cover off my protein skimmer! I had to run without the skimmer for a week. So use sparingly and without skimming, and when you turn skimmer back on monitor closely.

First Defense reacted with water chemistry
I did not have a good experience using First Defense. I can't really say a "con" as it is hard to determine. It may work for you and your fish.
Drs. Foster and Smith sell products that are far superior, in my opinion (and my fish like them!). I am not permitted to mention them here. I tried this in my 20 gallon and 75 gallon aquariums and fish presented with eye irritation in both. I stopped using it - treated for the condition - used my trusted products that I have used for years and fish got better. I have since concluded what the product reacted with and no longer use those media products either. The combination of First Defense and the media products did raise General Harness (I tested it) - a problem I have also corrected (using products the Good Doctors also sell)
The local water treatment company had something different in the water last week (confirmed when I spoke to them) - I had no idea! While not at all harmful to people - toxic to freshwater fish. I did a water change and results were disastrous. Immediate stress to fish - massive bacterial infection! The fish that were exposed for the longest the amount of time to my other trusted products are the survivors.
I know all the products that worked and now will buy nothing else. Lesson learned.
