Freshwater Substrates 20 lbs Style: Kon Tiki
Very Happy Customer!
I ordered (2) 20LB bags of the "Peace River" freshwater substrate for my 40 gallon breeder tank, to replace my bright blue aquarium gravel, that was a little to sharp for my next fish. Over all, very easy setup. I am very happy with the feel and appearance of the "Peace River" substrate. Also if you are on the fence about which style of substrate to purchase, I recommend you go to youtube and watch some videos. After seeing a video of the "Peace River", I knew that I had to buy some.

I bought 2 20 pound bags of the moonlight sand for my 55 gallon, and it is BEAUTIFUL! It covered well, got about an inch and a half, to two inches all over the floor of the tank, and it's absolutely gorgeous, bright white...it looks incredible. And it was so easy to use. Just pour it into the tank (it comes wet), pat it down where you want it, and fill the tank. It doesn't take long for it to settle back down after water changes either, and the tank doesn't look murky at all, even after you fluff the sand! I love it so much I'm planning on buying more soon for a 75 gallon that I'm going to purchase.

Most serious aquarists have one or more established tanks that are humming along without issue. The notion of completely tearing down a healthy aquarium simply to replace it's substrate seems like an undue amount of labor for minimal gain. That was certainly my opinion.
I had toyed with the idea of keeping a sand-tank for some time, but did not like the bright, artificial look of some products (green, red, snow white, yeech) and was unsure about play sand. And the thought of complete teardown and re-setup was depressing.
However, I finally decided to switch out a 70 gallon, "natural" gravel, catfish-only tank to Carib Sea Sunset Gold sand substrate. WHAT A GREAT MOVE! This biologically active sand looks fantastic and catfish exhibit very natural feeding behavior as they probe about searching for food. It's also kinder to sensitive barbels. And don't be put off by the "Gold" in the product name (as I initially was). The color is quite a naturalistic tannish shade and complements a driftwood decor.
I purchased 100 pounds and perhaps could have used 120 (I prefer a somewhat deeper cover). It arrived moist, produced minimal cloudiness, and within a couple of days looked like it had been in the tank for years. Despite what you hear, maintenance for a sand tank is easier than for gravel as waste does not disappear into the substrate. What the filter does not pick up, a quick vacuum will.
I will eventually replace all of my gravel tanks with this product. I very highly recommend!

Sand is great
I have the moonlight sand in my 55 gallon tank and it looks amazing! Somewhere burried are leftover water purifiers and softeners though lol. Sand looks great and didn't make my water very cloudy when put in
