great additive for planted tanks
It's getting harder and harder to find kitty litter laterite without additives so now I use this product. I tend to use it as a base layer in my planted tanks with mixed gravel, sand, flourite overlayers which gives me a more natural look than some of the other 'planted tank' substrates. If I'm working with fish that require harder water than comes out of my tap, like guppies or other livebearers, I also use crushed oyster shell as an additive. I get great plant growth without having to use ferts or CO2 injection. I pick up enough for an underlayer every time I set up a new tank!

Great Product, easy to use
This may not be a direct effect of the laterite, but my plants are doing great! My val is sprouting and making new runners. Only 1-2 weeks after planting!. All you have to do to use the product is rinse it in a bucket, mix it with the first inch of gravel in the aquarium, and then top it off with the rest. After that, your plants will have a rich Iron rich Base to suck nutrients from. Plants suck WAAAYYY more iron through their roots, because the roots are made for collecting and transporting nutrients. So, a good substrate is the KEY and FOUNDATION of a healthy planted tank. This product does that. It certainly does not hurt to add this, it is a safety net for you, and gives you peace of mind. Again, so far my plants are doing well and seem to be healthy.
