A check cord is a handy tool to use when training a dog to work an area a distance in front and away from the hunter/trainer. It allows one control over a dog that is ranging ahead, and it can be used to teach the position desired, and how the dog is expected to perform.
Check cords are typically made of tightly woven nylon material. They need to be stiff enough to resist tangling, yet supple enough to allow for the easy handling required in training exercises. The swivel snap prevents the cord from becoming twisted. A knot placed at the other end will prevent the hunter from losing his grip on the check cord. |
