Ear mites can be a misery for your pet. Our pyrethrin formula can rid your pet of these irritating parasites. | When it comes to ear problems, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so make routine ear exams and cleanings part of your pet's weekly routine. If the ear is sore or infected or if your pet is shaking her head or scratching at the ear, have her examined by a veterinarian. Ear mites are a common cause of ear infections in young pets and your veterinarian may recommend a treatment like Ear Miticide. A good indication that your pet has ear mites is the formation of dry dark brown, waxy exudate with crusts in the ears of pets. Ear mites may be detected by placing some of the ear exudates on a dark surface and carefully watching for the movement of tiny white specks away from the exudate. Inflamed, watery or blocked ear canals indicate a more serious condition, which requires the services of a veterinarian. Directions for use: Clean ears to remove buildup of wax and dirt. Fill the ear canal with approximately 1-10 drops depending on the size of the pet. Massage base of ear for a few minutes to permit penetration of the earwax by the solution. Wipe excess from the ear with cotton. Repeat treatment every other day. If no improvement is seen, consult a veterinarian. This solution applied twice monthly will help reduce the possibility of ear mite infestation as well as the accumulation of earwax. Active Ingredients:
*Equivalent to 0.48% of Butylcarbityl 6-propylpiperonyl ether and 0.12% of related compounds. A Note from Drs. Foster & Smith: Many times the quantity recommended on the label of a product varies from that commonly used. An example of this would be our Ear Miticide. The label for this product is controlled by the federal government and to change it will take a long time involving many steps. It can be used as directed on the label without any problem but in our practice we have found that a much smaller quantity is more than adequate. In the treatment of ear mites, we recommend that pets weighing between 1 and 15 pounds have 1 to 2 drops placed in each ear once daily, those weighing 16 to 30 pounds have 2 to 3 drops placed in each ear once daily and those weighing over 30 pounds have 3 to 4 drops placed in each ear once daily. For best results, any debris and excess medicine should be cleaned on a daily basis prior to treatment. We have found the lower dosage to work just as well as the higher one, allowing your purchase to last longer. |
| Q. |
Will Drs. Foster & Smith Ear Miticide take care of yeast in my pet's ears?
|
|---|
| A. | Ear Miticide is only for mites, and not for yeast infections. However, we do have a prescription product called Otomax Ointment that does treat yeast infections in the ear.
