Clipper Operation
Remove the blade guard covering the teeth of the blades.
Disperse a few drops of blade oil across the blades. Wipe off excess with a clean, dry cloth.
Clean clippings from the blades using the cleaning brush. Wipe the housing with a clean, dry cloth.
Before replacing the blade guard for storage, spread one or two drops of blade oil over the blades to prevent rusting.
Adjusting the Blade Cut
Adjustable clippers have a blade that enables you to cut hair at various lengths. To adjust: Move thumb blade adjustment lever down for coarse cutting or up for fine cutting.
After continued use, the top and bottom blades may wear out. Replacement blades are available here at Drs. Foster and Smith (item #74494). To remove the blades, unplug the clipper from the electric outlet. Lay the unit upside down on a flat, dry surface. Remove the two screws located in the bottom of the blade. To replace blades, put the new top blade into position on the clipper head. Make sure the adjustment lever is pushed downward. Line up the new bottom blade so that the screw holes in the bottom blade are directly over the two center screw holes in the mounting plate. Replace the screws. Before tightening the screws, adjust the position of the blades so that the top blade is 1/32" back from and is parallel to the front edge of the bottom blade. The blades should also be even on each side. Tighten screws firmly.
Lubricating the Blades
A light film of oil should be maintained on the surface of the cutting blades. Oiling the blades frequently while in use will help keep the blades cleaner. Clean blades cut better. To clean the blades, dip the teeth into an Oster blade wash with the clipper running. Do NOT immerse the clipper. Remove from the mixture and while holding the clipper with the blade end down, wipe the blades dry with a clean, dry cloth. Re-oil the blades.
Maintenance and Storage
Note: Any other maintenance not explained in this manual should be performed by an authorized Oster service center. To store unit, coil and secure cord and place in original carry case.
Using the Attachments
Plastic combs for attachment to clippers and trimmer blades are included. These plastic combs serve as a clipping guide so that the hair is not clipped too short. The comb attachment is grooved to fit snugly over the blades. When attaching the comb to the clipper, slide the comb down firmly as far as it will go. Make sure the comb is seated securely against the lower blade. To disengage the comb, pull and slide the comb upward until it is off the clipper. Replacement combs are not covered under the limited warranty.
Pet clippers are perfect for those finishing touches around the face, leg feathers, and feet, clippers are essential for long-haired dogs, and ideal for achieving a breed standard look on schnauzers and poodles.
Whether you want to do simple touch ups between trips to the groomer or wish to learn the whole process, start to finish, the first step is to research and purchase a quality clipper or trimmer.
