Great product to end scratches This product is worth trying if you have issues with your dog scratching you, even with regular nail clipping. I live with two seniors in their mid 70s and this product has really helped with our dog scratching their thin skin. Our dog doesn’t try to take them off and application was quick and easy. I don’t know how difficult removing them will be but so far they are worth any amount of effort. February 19, 2013

Great product! Please don't stop selling these, we just cannot do without them! I have a very active Redbone puppy living on brand new hardwood floors. This product has saved my floors! The caps also give her traction when running across the house. I wish we had purchased these as soon as we got her instead of trying (unsuccessfully) socks and boots. I would recommend these caps to anyone with hardwood floors. Our dog is also quite a digger and has not lost a cap yet; 3 weeks and counting! January 17, 2013

The Answer To Our Problems These nail covers are great. They are easy to put on once you get the right size. I started with my little maltese (Xsmall was the right size). Next my mothers minature poodle. She is taking a blood thinner that makes her bleed at the slightest scratch. We though small would work for him but since he is older his nail were thicker (med was the right size). Now Mom doesn't get scratched. Glue is included which is great. They don't chew on the caps (I thought they would). They just act like nothing is on there. Thanks for carrying this product. November 5, 2012

Worked very well for my dog! My 3 year old terrier has had allergies since puppyhood. He is on a restricted diet and gets allergy shots, but still scratches hard at any itches. Every time he'd get a little owie, he'd rip it open further and have to go into the dreaded cone until he healed. I bought the nail caps, put them on following the provided directions and he has been scab-free ever since. He doesn't even notice that his nails are now smooth. I am so thankful that I seem to have found a way to stop the cycle and allow his sores to heal! September 15, 2012

claw protectors

Our dog has very long claws. Even after trimming he clicks and clacks across our laminated floors. The problem is he has a problem with traction and slipping when he tries to get up from the floor. Do these claw covers increase traction on slippery surfaces?

I would say yes. They seemed to help our dog whe she was trying get up from a lying down position and pushed off with her back feet. Where we had put the claw protectors.

Thank you for your question. The Claw Protectors, do not help with traction. We do have item # 75585, the Fleece Dog Boots, the boots have nonskid bottom for safety.

My question is with regard to the soft claws nail caps

they are working beautifully and staying on so well I actually need to remove them in order to clip my dogs nails which are getting quite long underneath. What is the best way to remove them since they are glued on?

Thank you for your question. To remove remaining nail caps, just trim the very tip of the nail cap with a nail trimmer. The nail cap in most cases will peel [slide] off. This procedure works well after the nail caps have been on for four or more weeks.

If for any reason the nail cap does not come off [or trying to remove caps earlier than four weeks], use a nail trimmer to chip off the top surface of the nail cap. This step will further loosen the nail cap and it will peel off. The fresh clean nail is now ready for re-application of a new nail cap as long as the very pointed tip of the nail has been trimmed off.

Nail Tips

I have a Doberman with Wobblers Disease that drags her front leg. Her nails are worn down that the quiks bleed sometimes. Will I be able to use these tips for her nails if they are very very short?

Thank you for your question. I asked our in-house veterinarian staff their opinion and they said that they think you would have to try it, but they believe that the caps would probably wear off quickly. They suggest perhaps trying putting a boot on the affected foot. Here is a link to a boot that would be available: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produ.... They come in sets of 4 so you would have 3 replacement boots for future use. These are durable boots, but with extended dragging, it is possible that they will wear out over time. Thank you for your question. We would not recommend that you use the Nail Caps with dew claws, as it would be more likely to get snagged on something and risk injuring the dew claw.
