Self-framing in exterior walls between 4-3/4" and 7-1/4" thick.
Safety Feature: The pet door has a special safety feature to keep your pet from hurting himself. The vinyl U-shaped frame that goes around the door has a split at the top of each screw hole The vinyl U-frame is made to come off the screw so your pet will not become tangled. The clamping strips are factory mounted. Please check to ensure that the two screws holding the U-frame on are not over tightened.
To Lock Your Pet In or Out: When you don't want your pet to use the pet door, be sure to put the closing panel on the same side as you put your pet. He'll see a solid door and won't try to pass through it.
Training Your Pet to Use the Pet Door
The 2-way Pet Door swings in and out so your pet can come and go with ease. Most animals learn to use the pet door with just a little help. Here's all you do. Bring your pet to the door. It helps for you to be on the opposite side of the door from your pet. Lift up the vinyl flap a few inches and try to coax your pet into coming through. Sometimes a little food will work as a reward for his coming through. Pet him and talk to him. Do not shove him through. He'll learn quickly enough!
Note: If your pet won't go through, tie the vinyl U-Frame up in the open position until your pet goes through the door on his own.

INSTALLATION Step 1: Interior Wall Cut-Out
Locate the site for the Wall Entry Aluminum Pet Door.
Locate the Wall Studs in the proposed area.
Locate the center between the two Wall Studs. a.Using a Pencil, draw a 5" vertical line on center about 10" to 12" above floor b.NOTE: Check for electrical and plumbing fixtures that could be in the wall where you wish to mount the Wall Entry Aluminum Pet Door.
Mark the shoulder height of your pet on the vertical line. Draw a horizontal line through your mark.
Place the Template against the Wall. Align the lines on the Template with the lines on the Wall. Tape the Template in place. Check that the Template is square.
Carefully trace the Template with a pencil. Remove the Template from the Wall.
Drill out the four corners of the rectangular hole with a 5/16" drill bit.
Carefully cut out the hole using a jigsaw (or other appropriate cutting device). a.NOTE: Cut ON the line.
Using Side A of the Pet Door, check the Fit. a.DO NOT force fit. If the hole isn't large enough, re-cut slightly or file away the edges. DO NOT cut more than 1/8" from your previous cut.
Once the Pet Door properly goes into the hole, adjust to ensure the unit is square.
Step 2: Exterior Wall Cut-Out
Remove the Pet Door from the Wall.
Fold up the Center Locator. Slide the folded piece into the back of Side A.
Place Side A of the Pet Door back into the wall and use drywall screws to temporarily hold the unit in place.
Lift the Flap and push the Center Locator until it is touching the outside wall.
Ensure all the folded flaps are resting flush against the inside of the tunnel and that you have not completely pushed the Center Locator completely out of the Pet Door Tunnel.
Mark the holes on the Center Locator.
Remove the Pet Door from the inside wall.
Drill out the marked holes with your 5/16" drill bit. Be careful to keep these holes as straight as possible.
You are now ready to work from outside the wall.
Line up the three holes on the Template with the three holes you just drilled.
Check for square and tape into position.
Repeat the instructions for cutting the hole.
Note: If you are going through vinyl siding, it is best to carefully score and cut the siding before cutting through plywood.
Step 3: Optional Support Installation
Measure from the inside of the outer wall to the inside of the inner wall.
Cut a 2x4 (not included) to the measured length. Ensure the cut is square.
Remove any debris that may be inside the wall where the support will be located.
Place the support inside the wall so the top of the support is flush with the bottom of the cut-outs. a.NOTE: Make sure the support fits snug and that it is not too short or too long. In either instance, the wall may become damaged.
Use two of the included drywall screws to fasten the inner side of the support. Check again to ensure the support is flush with the bottom of the cut-outs.
Use two of the included galvanized screws to fasten the outer portion of the support. a.NOTE: If placing the screws into vinyl siding it may be necessary to drill a hole through the siding slightly larger than the heads of the screws. This will allow the screws to tighten flush with the plywood and not buckle the vinyl siding.
Step 4: Pet Door Installation
Using the holes left by the drywall screws on Side A of the Pet Door as pilot holes, drill a 1/2" hole for the Toggle Bolts.
Install the Toggle Bolts into Side A of the Pet Door.
Place Side A of the Pet Door back into the cut hole and tighten the Bolts.
You are now ready to work from the outside wall. With Side B in position, mark the location of the four Toggle Bolt holes. Remove Side B from the Wall. Drill the marked locations with the 1/2" drill bit.
Install the Toggle Bolts into Side B of the Pet Door.
Slide Side B of the Pet Door into Side A. Tighten the Toggle Bolts.
Inspect the unit for a snug fit. Fill any gaps by further tightening the Bolts or use a closed cell foam (not included) and/or silicone caulk (not included).
Note: A closing panel is included. To use, just slip the panel down into the side grooves and pull the spring-loaded latch toward you so that the closing panel can slide all the way into the track. Please be sure to use the tip lip as a handle. To avoid damaging the closing panel, please do not use the spring-loaded latch as a handle.
