I'm comfortable using the pet safe ice melt. The ice melt removes the ice & snow from my stairs & sidewalk very quickly. I feel secure & safe when using this product because it doesn't harm my hound's paws. It works well for me too! I can't slip on the ice. February 9, 2012

Ice Melt-Down Ice Melt Down We like the product a lot. It is safe on our dogs paws, grass, shrubs, sidewalk, garden, trees and it last just as long as salt does on the sidewalks. January 28, 2012

Works fast and is easy to spread. We keep several jugs of this in our home for winter and early spring use. It helps us and our dogs get over the stone bridge and up/down the stairs without slipping. I also like that this product will not harm my plants or the concrete. We have used this for over 7 years. July 19, 2011

Regarding your IceMelt product, can it be used on decks?

There was a previous question regarding deck use and you answered only that the product indicates it is safe for concrete, walkways and patios. Can you research further and determine if it is safe on decks and will it work similar to concrete?

We used it last year on what we call our "boardwalk" (as opposed to "sidewalk") that leads from our back door out to the yard. It's the same wood as our deck and we had absolutely no problem. I reordered last year when I was thrilled with it for our dogs (& for us) and plan to use it again this year! I don't want to be without it during the snowy, icy weather.

I've used this on TREK decking material and it is just fine. You might see some outline left from it melting but it will disappear with either the rain or washing it. I have never used it on wood decking though. HTH!

Thank you for your question. According to the manufacturer: Yes. it can be used on wood. Unstained, and or unsealed wood may exhibit darkening of the wood which will age out or bleach out in the sun. This may occur on older wood which has been subject to a great deal of bleaching and weathering already.

Is the product safe for cats?

Our barn cats we got back in May will be frequently traveling the concrete up around our porch and want to lessen the amount of shoveling I need to do. Need to make sure that the product is safe for cats who will be most likely regularly walking through the stuff.

What if my pet ingests it?

My lab loves to munch on snow and ice so I am concerned about treating our back porch where the doggie door is located. Does safe for pets just mean that it will not cause their paws to chap and crack or does it mean that it will not cause them harm if accidentally ingested?
