Excellent training tool
Like any other training tool, you need to know how to use it, but that said, this tool can be extremely helpful. Just as it is a little tricky for many people to condition dogs to accept and relax in a head halter, you need to know how to train -- or that is, condition the dog gradually to accept and forget about the cap -- for it to work.
I begin with very short exposures, and excellent treats, and slowly build to applying the cap and feeding for longer periods. You could apply the cap before every meal and take it off when the dog has finished eating. Then if the dog likes to be petted or enjoys brushing, or tugging, apply the cap, do the fun thing, take it off.

Helpful for specific dogs and situations
The Calming Cap, a Premier Pet Product recently licensed by the Thundershirt Company is helpful for certain dogs in certain situations, for example those that are aroused by environmental stimuli, but the choice of using a Calming Cap over another product should be a careful decision made by a qualified professional.
As a professional dog trainer I have had few occasions to recommend the Calming Cap. One of those was for a dog that was highly stimulated by windshield wipers.
Good product - but usefulness is limited to certain dogs in certain situations and I highly recommend consulting a professional knowledgeable about dog behavior and the product if considering use.

See My review
My dog (similiar in size to dog pictured in advertisement) quickly learned to rub her face along car seat pushing calming cap over her eyes, so that cap looked like a kerchief over her head. Worked well (stopped barking)for about 5 minutes when it was over her eyes. Need to have snout portion less elastic and more securely held in place.
