Antler Chews for Dogs

100% natural, North American deer or elk antlers are a boon for puppies, aggressive chewers, and large dogs because they last so very long and are extremely difficult to split or chip. Owners of dogs with allergies also swear by them. These antlers are naturally shed or harvested, and ALL are either Grade A or B, which means they have not been exposed to the elements for longer than a year. Interesting Antler Facts:

• Antlers start out as layers of cartilage and slowly mineralize into bone.
• Most antlers grow up to 1" per day.
• As they become large and the velvet begins to grow, the blood flow lessens and they become bone.
• Every year, when the antlers reach full growth, the animal naturally sheds them.
• The older the animal, the more "points" it is able to grow.
• Because of the fast cell growth that occurs naturally in antlers, scientists are using them for research in cures for many diseases, including cancer.

• Make sure the antler is the appropriate size for your dog (see size chart above).
• Take the antler away from your dog if he is chewing hard enough to break it.
• As with all treats please supervise chewing.
• If dog is not interested in the antler: rub with sandpaper, smear with peanut butter, soak in water or bouillon over night or rub with Worcestershire sauce.
