Big Max Stainless Steel Pet Fountain

Since trickling water attracts pets in the outdoors, why not deliver it this way at home to promote healthy water consumption? The Big Max Stainless Steel Pet Fountain delivers fresh, oxygenated water from a top flow bowl. Pets can drink straight from the trickling stream, or from the large circular reservoir it flows into. Soothing sounds of trickling water calm and reassure your pet. Big Max includes a charcoal filter, so the water is cleaned and purified as the quiet pump re-circulates it.

The large, one-gallon capacity means you'll spend less time refilling and more time adoring your pet. Stainless steel construction is dishwasher safe and resists bacteria growth, a problem with some plastic fountains. Ultra-quiet 2-watt pump, as well as the included filter, are accessed by removing the top flow bowl and opening the patent-pending clamshell housing. This efficient construction makes maintenance quick and easy. Includes 6 ft UL listed cord with detachable transformer. Holds 128 oz (1 gal). 12" x 14" x 5" high.

The charcoal filter included with the Big Max cleans water for approximately two to four weeks. Replacement filters (Item #72065) available, sold separately.

Operating Instructions
Do not run dry. For indoor use only.
As with any electrical device, check the electrical cord for any tears or damage before use.

1. Rinse the filter cartridge thoroughly under cool water before placing into the pump housing. Rinsing will remove a majority of the loose charcoal dust which is harmless to pets.
2. Remove the top bowl by placing your index fingers underneath the front side of the top bowl and lift up from lower bowl. Set top bowl off to the side.
3. Remove the top cover of the clamshell pump housing by pulling the button on the front and pull up the cover. After rinsing, insert the charcoal filter cartridge into the pump housing. The filter cartridge will fit into the frame of the pump housing.
4. Put the top cover of the pump housing back into place.
5. Put the top bowl back in place.
6. Place fountain in desired location. The use of a protective mat (such as the Bridgeport Placemat) is suggested to protect your floor from splashes or drips which may occur during use by your pet.
7. Fill the unit with water.
8. Before you plug in the fountain, make sure the cord and your hands are dry.
9. Please allow 1 to 2 minutes for pump to start pumping once plugged in.
10. Add water as needed and always keep fountain filled with water to 1/2" from top edge of bowl.

Filters
Filter cartridges should be changed approximately every two to four weeks.

Cleaning the Fountain
Disassemble and clean the fountain approximately every one to two weeks using the following steps:

1. Unplug the fountain.
2. Remove the top bowl.
3. Unplug the power cord from the transformer (plug).
4. Pull out the power cord of motor from the power cord riser. Remove the pumphousing and set aside.
5. Pour out remaining water from the bottom bowl.
6. Remove power cord and motor and set aside.
7. Wash lower bowl and top bowl with water and a mild soap solution, and rinse well. Or, place these two pieces into the dishwasher for cleaning.
8. Dry all fountain components with a clean towel.

To Reassemble and Restart Fountain

1. To reassemble, make sure the motor flow rate lever on pump is set to the maximum or "+" position.
2. Change filter cartridge. If using a new filter cartridge, first rinse the filter before using.
3. Install the top cover of pump housing.
4. Re-install the pump housing in guides located in the inside of the lower bowl. Press pump housing down to allow the suction cups to attach to the bowl.
5. Thread the power cord through the power cord riser.
6. Install the top bowl of the fountain.
7. Place fountain in desired location and re-start per directions above.

Pump Maintenance
Cleaning the pump is essential to the longevity of the fountain, as well as the cleanliness of the water.

1. To clean, unplug the fountain.
2. Remove the top bowl from the lower bowl.
3. Unplug the power cord from the transformer.
4. Remove the top cover of pump housing and set aside.
5. Gently lift the pump out of the housing. Suction cups keep the pump situated in place, so a little force may be necessary to free the pump.
6. Once the pump is out of the fountain, with your thumb and forefinger, gently squeeze on either side of the intake plate and take it off. It may be necessary to insert a fingernail into the seam of the inlet plate to pry it off.
7. Next, remove the teardrop-shaped stator by placing your finger nail under the small lip located on the narrow side of stator and pull out.
8. You can also remove the impeller (three-bladed propeller) which is held in place magnetically. To remove, use a fingernail to get under a blade and lift out.
9. Rinse all parts well.
10. Once the parts are clean, reassemble the pump by replacing first the impeller, and then the stator and cover plate.
