LitterMaid Elite Automatic Litter Box
Whenever your cat uses the LitterMaid, a complete cleaning cycle will begin approximately 10 minutes after LitterMaid detects that the cat has left the litter box. If the cat re-enters and leaves the litter box before the initial 10 minutes have elapsed, the timer will automatically reset and delay the beginning of the cleaning cycle for an additional 10 minutes.
Place the LitterMaid Self-Cleaning Litter Box in the same location formerly occupied by your old litter box. After your cat becomes accustomed to the LitterMaid product, you may move the LitterMaid to another location. However, do not place the LitterMaid product in a wet environment or in direct sunlight.

Use Instructions
TO INSTALL DISPOSABLE CONTAINER: Insert waste container into receptacle area of the unit, making sure that the two notched corners on the bottom of the container rest on the horizontal posts of the unit. Slip the edge of the waste container UNDERNEATH the ridged tabs of the LitterMaid unit, making sure it snaps in place securely. TO INSTALL LID: Lift cover of compartment and position the waste container lid with its two round "fasteners" extending downward. Now insert these two raised areas into the two round openings in the compartment cover, and "PUSH" each raised area into its corresponding opening. Close cover. The raised areas on the waste container lid will now extend through and above the compartment cover by approximately 1/2" inch. Your new disposable container is now installed.
TO REMOVE WASTE CONTAINER: See instructions under section entitled CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF THE LITTERMAID.
Setting up the LitterMaid
- Fill the litter box to the "FULL" line with premium clumping litter.
- Do not overfill. Use the Triple Action Tool's measuring markers to determine the correct amount of litter to add to the litter pan on the LitterMaid Elite.
- Do not pack litter down. Add more litter when the level drops to the "ADD LITTER" line.
NOTE: It is extremely important that a premium brand of clumping litter be used for proper operation.
Slide Power Switch to the OFF position. Plug in the A/C power adaptor and/or install 8 "AA" batteries. To open battery compartment, press release tabs on compartment edge and lift off the top. Install batteries as indicated on diagram inside compartment. Close battery compartment.
With batteries installed, if AC power fails, unit will still operate normally. If operated solely on batteries, power should last approximately three months, depending on number of cats and frequency of usage.
To ensure proper operation, make sure Disposable Waste Container is secured before use.
Your unit is equipped with a safety bar that will stop and reverse the cleaning rake if it senses that the cat or some other object has gotten behind the rake while it is returning to its home position.
ALARMS: When unit is operating on batteries, the red light will blink quickly to indicate that the batteries require replacement. Light will continue to blink until the batteries have been replaced, removed, or are completely dead.
If the rake cannot move an obstacle, such as a hard, stuck clump, during the cleaning cycle, the unit will rake up to five times in an attempt to clear the obstacle. If unsuccessful, the rake will return to its home position, and the red light will blink slowly (approximately every second) indicating that the rake has encountered an obstacle it cannot move. If this happens, remove the obstacle, then slide the switch to the OFF position for 5 seconds and back to the ON position.
The cleaning rake will then undergo a complete cleaning cycle. When cycle is finished, the LitterMaid is again ready for fully automatic operation.
To Install Litter Guard Ramp (Optional): The litter guard ramp has two pivot pins. The LitterMaid unit has 2 holes located on the sides of the waste container end of the unit. Position the litter guard ramp with fabric side facing up, and the pivot pins pointed toward the waste container end of the LitterMaid. Lift the litter guard ramp and insert one of the pivot pins into a hole. Slightly stretch the other pivot pin to reach the other hole, then insert. Be careful not to overstretch. Tug slightly on litter guard ramp to ensure ramp is secure. Clean the ramp with a vacuum cleaner.
CAUTION: This is not a toy. LitterMaid is a precision-operated appliance. Should the rake become jammed during cleaning, this unit contains a mechanism that will automatically stop, reverse, and restart the cleaning operation. Never allow small children to play in or around this device.
Operating Instructions Slide the power switch to the ON position. The green light indicator will turn on and will glow steadily, indicating unit is operating normally. The cleaning rake will then undergo one complete cleaning cycle. When cycle is finished, the LitterMaid is ready for fully automatic operation.
To empty and refill litter tray:
- Check to make sure rake is in home position (close to the battery box).
- Slide the On/Off switch to the OFF position.
- Unplug and remove batteries to prevent accidental activation of unit while it is being cleaned.
- Pull out the latches on both sides of unit and lift up. Do not lift by the latches. This will separate the tray from the main casing.
- Dispose of the clumping litter and wipe the tray with a damp cloth. If further cleaning is necessary, the litter pan can be fully immersed in water and washed with a mild detergent. To ensure proper disposal of clumping litter, follow manufacturer's instructions on litter package.
- Clean rake with a soft cloth using warm water and a mild detergent. Do not use scouring pads or harsh or abrasive chemicals. Spray rake lightly with silicon spray or furniture polish and let dry completely before reinstalling.
- To reinstall rake: Align the 4 slots on the rake with the screws on the rake assembly housing and push to snap in place. Press firmly at the base of the rake, so that it clicks onto the rake assembly housing, indicating that the rake has been properly installed.
- IMPORTANT: Do not immerse the main casing in water. Dry the unit completely before reassembly.
- Refill litter pan to the "FILL LINE" with premium maximum clumping litter only.
- To reassemble, place the litter pan on a flat surface. Lower the main casing onto the litter pan carefully. Engage the two locks by pressing each latch firmly against tabs on litter pan until a click is heard to indicate that both sections are locked in place.
- Wipe any dust off the two sensors.
- Plug in the AC power adaptor and/or replace batteries.
- Slide the On/Off switch to the ON position to reactivate automatic operation.
Waste Container Assembly
To remove waste container, depress the two raised areas extending through the openings in compartment cover. This will detach the disposable waste container lid from the cover of waste container compartment. Now lift the compartment cover, exposing the closed waste container assembly.
NOTE: Be sure to place a cloth or other appropriate material under the rake assembly while disassembling. We suggest wearing rubber or latex gloves while handling the soiled rake.
To clean or replace rake:
- Be sure rake assembly is in home position.
- Turn off, unplug unit and/or remove batteries.
- Remove waste container.
- Separate top assembly from litter pan.
- Turn top assembly upside down so that side with rake assembly is closest to you. Rake assembly features four screws on rake assembly housing and four corresponding notches on rake that snap onto and fit snugly over screws to hold rake in place. To disengage rake: Starting at one corner, grasp rake assembly by placing thumb on bottom of rake and fingers on rake. Pull and slide until notch on rake.
