Even the cutest, most cuddly cat is still wild at heart. You can witness prey drive when your kitten pounces on anything that moves - be it your dog's tail, an enticing foot under the covers, or a feather at the end of a cat toy. You can also tell when your cat is exhibiting prey drive by watching her body movements. A slow switching of the tail; chattering; careful, slow body movements; a quick swat or bat; and grabbing an object with her forepaws before falling over to the side and raking the object with her back feet are all signs your cat is ready for - or experiencing - the hunt. Good cat husbandry includes your encouragement of these activities. The best and easiest way to keep your cat on the prowl - which means she is alert, focused, and stimulated - is through the use of toys.

Cleaning your Ricky Rodent or Lovely Lucy Toys
Spot clean each toy with cold water. Do not use bleach. Ensure the toy has thoroughly dried before returning it to your cat's environment.
The Chemistry of Catnip
Although no one knows exactly what happens in the cat's brain, it is known that the chemical nepetalactone in catnip triggers the response, kicking off a stereotypical pattern in cats that are sensitive to the chemical. The catnip reaction is inherited in an autosomal dominant gene. Up to a third of adult cats, in which the gene is not present, are totally unaffected by catnip. Kittens under 3 months of age do not usually react to catnip, either.

My cat, Tinker, has made this his all time favorite toy. It is the first one he gets out of his toy box, no matter what else is in there. We've had it for quite a while and he still just loves it! Best toy ever!!!
Ricky Rodent is a great toy for my 5 cats. I have 2 Rickys. I put them back in the toy box at night and in the morning they're in my bathroom. When I come home from work they're found in different rooms of my home. My cats have dozens of toys but this is the one that keeps them really busy. My big boy Maine Coone, Riley, even wakes me at night with his yowling while he's on top of Ricky holding him down!!
