Big Cat Flap Door

This cat door is economically priced and sized large enough for the biggest felines. Constructed of durable plastic housing and features a two-way, hinged, swinging, clear plastic flap. The door also includes two, plastic, manual locking mechanisms that combine to allow the flap to open and/or close in one of four ways - open, locked, in only, or out only. Overall size of the housing is 11-1/2" wide x 11-1/2" high. Opening size measures 7-1/8" wide x 8" high. Installs in doors or walls, up to 2" thick. Housing is white. Magnetic catch pulls flap closed once your pet is through. For pets up to 22 lbs.

Pet doors offer your cat freedom and you convenience. When traditionally installed in an outside-access door or wall, your cat can move freely between the indoors and outdoors - to hunt, play, or just soak up some sunshine. However, pet doors are also a great way to permit access to otherwise closed off rooms inside of the home. This is especially useful in homes with multiple pets or small children - as the door allows your cat's litter or food to be accessed only by your cat - and not inquisitive dogs.

1. Measure the height between the floor and the bottom of your cat's stomach.
2. Mark this height on the door or wall on which you are going to install the Big Cat Flap Door.
3. Cut a 10-1/4" diameter hole into the chosen door or wall. The hole should be cut so that the bottom edge of the circle is at the marked height.
   a.NOTE: If cutting a hole into a glass door - or if you are uncomfortable cutting a hole in your house's wall or wooden door, please consult a professional. NOT for double-glazed, toughened or tempered glass applications. Tempered glass usually has an indicia mark in one corner. If you see this mark, it is tempered glass. Homes built after 1985 are more likely to have tempered glass. Dual-pane, insulated glass units are almost certainly tempered and should not be cut. The best way to put a pet door in tempered, double-glazed, or toughened glass is to have a new piece of glass made for you by a local glass shop with a hole pre-cut in the glass.
4. Once the hole is cut, position the Plastic Back Plate with Opening on the outside of the opening.
   a.NOTE: For optimal use and safety, the door should be installed with the two, red, manual locking mechanisms on the interior of the house. This allows for easy, convenient locking of the door.
5. Next, measure the width of the cut hole.
6. Mark this width on the Plastic, Ridged Side/Bottom Hole Liner.
7. Also mark this width on the Plastic, Ridged Top Hole Liner.
8. Cut the marked widths.
9. Once cut, bend the Plastic, Ridged Side/Bottom Hole Liner to fit and line the cut hole.
10. If the width of the liner is correct, place a few drops of a suitable glue or fastener (not included) on the back side of the liner.
11. Again, bend the liner and insert it into the cut hole, pressing and holding the liner into position, per the glue or fastener (not included) manufacturer's recommendations.
12. Repeat the gluing and fitting process for the Plastic, Ridged Top Hole Liner.
13. Once the glue has dried/cured, continue assembling the housing.
14. Fit the Plastic Front Plate with Hinged Swinging Door onto the door assembly.
15. Using one set (four) of the three included Metal Screw Sets and one included Metal Hex Nuts to fasten the Front Plate to the Back Plate.
    a.NOTE: Choose a Metal Screw Set closest to the thickness of the door. Ensure each Metal Screw and Metal Hex Nut is tightly fastened.
16. Using a hacksaw (not included), cut any exposed, excess Metal Screw Set ends away from the assembly.

• In Only: The cat can come in but not go out again. For example, if your cat is outside at night, you do not have to wait for her to come in before locking up for the evening.
• Out only: The cat can go out but not come in again. For example, you can leave your cat inside the house, knowing she can go outside if she chooses, but that other, unwanted cats cannot enter your house.
• Locked: The owner can keep his cat inside or outside at will.
• Unlocked: The cat can enter or leave the house as desired.

The most important rule is to be patient with your cat. Don't be in a hurry. Let your animal learn for herself that she can move in and outside. Do not force your cat through the flap, or she may become frightened of the door.

Many cat owners install pet doors when they move to a new house. If this applies to you, make sure your animal is familiar with her surroundings before you fit the Big Cat Flap Door. Take your cat on supervised trips outdoors, with her securely on a leash. Also, make sure your cat feels secure and comfortable in her new indoor environment. Cats can develop long-lasting fears in unfamiliar surroundings.

Once the Big Cat Flap Door is installed, prop it open for some time. The door can be propped open with a piece of wood; or, you can attach a clothespin to the top of one side of the flap while the door is open. However you prop open the flap, make sure the prop is secure and that the flap cannot accidentally fall down. Let your cat become familiar with it and freely move inside and/or outside.

Establish a motive for your cat to use the door. The most obvious motive is food. First, feed your cat near the door, on the inside of your house. Then move the food to the outside of the door, keeping it near enough to the door to allow your cat to associate her food with her new door. Repeat these steps as needed to encourage your cat to freely use the Big Cat Flap Door.

It is recommended to not use the lock on the Big Cat Flap Door until your cat is thoroughly familiar with using the door. Locking the door before your cat is used to using it, may confuse her and cause her to stop using - and benefiting from - the Big Cat Flap Door.
