Ear Clens® Pads
The key to healthy ears is keeping them clean. Check your pet's ears weekly. A slight amount of waxy buildup may be present in normal ears. If your pet has a history of ear disease, routine cleaning - 1 to 2 times per week - is recommended. You may wish to clip excess hair around the ear to allow more airflow. Treat any underlying condition that predisposes your pet to ear problems, such as allergies.
Description: Drs. Foster & Smith Ear Clens® Pads gently and effectively dissolve waxy build-up and remove debris. Routine use helps maintain good ear hygiene.
Directions for Use: Gently wipe accessible portion of the ear pad. Repeat if necessary. Use once or twice weekly, up to 3 times daily, or as directed by your veterinarian.
Caution: For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Do NOT use if eardrum is ruptured. Discontinue use if irritation develops. If irritation orsymptoms persist, consult your veterinarian. Keep out of reach of children and pets to avoid accidental ingestion.
How to Clean Your Pet's Ears
Cleaning your pet's ears routinely is a great way to prevent infections. To be effective you need to clean ears quickly, thoroughly, and painlessly. Follow these four easy steps for veterinary-like results:
-
Restraint: There is an old Veterinary adage that success is "all in the holder." This is especially true when cleaning ears. Have your pet sit or lie down and make sure the environment is well lit. If your pet is active, have someone gently but firmly hold the pet and his head still. Placing a smaller pet up on a table may make restraint easier.
-
Fold and Lift: Fold the pad in half and then gently lift and wipe the deepest part of the ear first. Use mild pressure and work the pad gently into the folds while sweeping the dirt and wax toward the edge of the ear. On very dirty ears this may take two or three passes.
-
Fold and Wipe: After the deep part of the ear is clean, continue with a new pad. Then, while firmly grasping the ear, wipe the outer edges of the ear with a circular motion until they are clean.
-
Reward: The final step is a reward. Whether verbal praise or a treat (such as #33323), a reward will go a long way in making your pet feel that ear cleaning is a positive experience. Many pets enjoy having their ears cleaned and will actually get excited when they see you take the jar of Ear Clens Pads come out of the cabinet.
