Recombitek West Nile Virus (WNV) vaccine is used as an aid in the prevention of viremia due to West Nile Virus infection. This is the only commercial equine vaccine tested against both a natural challenge by WNV-infected mosquitoes and intrathecal challenge. Onset of immunity begins within 26 days of a single dose and horses are fully protected 14 days after two-dose series.

This horse vaccine utilizes recombinant canary pox as a vector to target only the parts of the virus needed for an immune response while protecting against other disease. The recombinant technology used in Recombitek vaccines stimulates both arms of the horse's immune system (circulating antibodies and cell-mediated immunity) and uses only the proteins needed by the horse to stimulate immunity. According to the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), a recombinant canary pox vaccine is expressed in a vaccine strain canary pox vector, which does not replicate in the horse. Recombitek WNV contains killed WNV virus and live canary pox vector. Recombitek West Nile Virus Vaccine may be used in healthy horses as young as 2-4 months of age.

In accordance with federal packaging regulation 9CFR Part 112, vaccines may only be shipped in the manufacturer's original, unopened container. This regulation helps ensure vaccine quality and consistency in labeling. Administration and Dosage: Reconstitute the lyophilized vaccine with accompanying liquid diluent and aseptically inject a 1 ml dose by intramuscular route. For primary vaccination, revaccinate with a second 1 ml dose of this product 4 to 6 weeks later. Annual revaccination with a single dose is recommended.

Storage: Store at 2°-7° C (35°- 45° F).
