Ultimate Stock Tank De-Icer from K&H Pet Products

Keep fresh water available in your stock tank all winter long - without breaking the bank! The K&H Ultimate Stock Tank De-Icer runs safely, efficiently, and automatically when temperatures drop. The Ultimate series features lower-wattage units, too, so you don't have to use more energy than you need for your agricultural zone and tank size (see chart in "More Information" for help choosing). Its all-in-one design includes a protective cage over the heating element, so there's no additional expense of a shroud or cage. Right out of the box, use it as a floating de-icer, or, with the click of a button, convert it to a submersible de-icer. A cord safety clip is included, which secures the de-icer to the edge of the stock tank to help prevent chewing, cribbing or removal from the tank. 6 ft cord features adjustable cord guard; please note that this de-icer should not be used with an extension cord.

For use as a floating de-icer:
To use your Ultimate stock tank de-icer as a floating de-icer, simply unpack your de-icer from the box, uncurl the cord and float it in your stock tank. (You may want to adjust the cord to ensure the de-icer is floating level in the water.) The Ultimate de-icer has a plastic cord protector to help against abrasion. This protector can slide on the cord and is recommended to have this protection where the cord exits the tank. Plug your Ultimate de-icer into a GFCI electrical outlet. It is mandatory this de-icer is plugged into a GFCI outlet. A GFCI outlet stands for Ground Fault Current Interrupter. This type of protection is important for any electrical device used near or in water. If your outlet is not a GFCI outlet or if you are unsure, have a qualified electrician inspect and install one if needed.

For use as a submersible de-icer:
To use your Ultimate stock tank de-icer as a submersible de-icer, hold the de-icer and spin the floater ring located on the top of the de-icer, counter-clock wise. It will unscrew and detach from the main housing body. Once the floater ring is removed, uncurl the cord and place the de-icer into a desired location at the bottom of the stock tank. Be sure the de-icer is resting on its feet. (The heating element will be facing up toward the surface of the water.) Adjust the cord protector by sliding it on the cord to the location that the cord exits the tank. Once you are satisfied with the placement of the de-icer, plug your Ultimate de-icer into a GFCI electrical outlet. It is mandatory this de-icer is plugged into a GFCI outlet. A GFCI outlet stands for Ground Fault Current Interrupter. This type of protection is important for any electrical device used near or in water. If your outlet is not a GFCI outlet or if you are unsure, have a qualified electrician inspect and install one if needed.

Warning: This is an electrical product. Read all directions and precautions carefully before operating. Store indoors after winter season. Inspect cord before using. Do not use extension cords. Read all instructions.

Caution: To provide protection against electrical shock:

1. Have a qualified electrician install a properly grounded outlet, acceptable for outdoor use and protected from snow and rain immediately adjacent to the location where the de-icer will be used.
2. Route supply cord and locate the de-icer so as to be protected from damage by livestock.
3. Do not use extension cords.
4. Inspect cord before using. If the cord is damaged do not use.
5. Unplug de-icer at receptacle outlet when not in use or before removal from stock tank.
6. Store de-icer indoors after the winter season.

Care and Maintenance of your Ultimate De-Icer:
Occasionally inspect your de-icer for proper placement and to ensure there is not excessive mineral build-up on the heating element. Mineral build-up will look like a whitish scaly material on the heater. If you see the heating element has mineral build-up, unplug the de-icer from the GFCI outlet. Allow 1 minute before removing the de-icer from the water to ensure it is cool to the touch. If the floater ring is attached, remove it as described above and set aside for re-installation after the cleaning process. Locate the 4 push buttons around the sides of the housing. Push one at a time to detach the top from the bottom housing. When you have the bottom housing with the exposed heater, thread the cord back through the housing so it hangs freely from the heater. This will allow you to unscrew the heater from the housing. After unscrewing the heater from the housing, wipe the heating element with a wet or damp cloth to remove the scale build-up. If the build-up is stubborn, a commercially available lime and mineral deposit removing liquid can be used. This can be placed into a shallow container and the heating element can be placed into the lime removing liquid until it is clean. Only the heating element portion of the heater should be submersed into a cleaning fluid. After cleaning, re-install the heating element back into the housing by screwing it in and threading the cord back through so it exits out the bottom of the housing. Snap the top protective housing back on by properly lining up the push buttons to the holes in the bottom housing. Once the housing is snapped together properly, you may now re-install the floater ring if you so choose to use it as a floating de-icer. Follow the steps above for placement back into your stock tank.

Storing your Ultimate De-Icer:
After the winter season, always unplug your Ultimate de-icer and remove from the stock tank. Make sure your de-icer is dry and properly cleaned before storing it away in a dry, safe place, out of direct sunlight and away from work areas where it may become damaged. For re-installation, always carefully inspect your Ultimate de-icer before plugging it in. Inspect the cord, the housing, plug and heating element for damage. If you see any cracking of the cord or other damage, DO NOT USE! Discard the de-icer.
