K&H Manufacturing CleanFlow Stock Tank Filter & De-Icer

Clean Flow Stock Tank De-Icer is specifically made to fit easily into your Clean Flow Filter to turn it instantly into a Filter/De-Icer, providing your horse with a warmer supply of water when temperatures dip below freezing. 500W Clean Flow De-Icer has been found to keep stock tanks open down to -30°F, using less energy than similar de-icers. Includes 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" Cord Clip to keep cord free from tank and out of horse's reach. De-Icer is 5-1/2" x 3" with a 65" cord.

1. Have a qualified electrician install a properly grounded outlet, acceptable for outdoor use and protected from snow and rain immediately adjacent to the location where the filter will be used.
2. Route supply cord and locate the filter so as to be protected from damage by livestock.
3. Do not use extension cords.
4. Inspect cord before using. If the cord is damaged do not use.
5. Unplug filter at receptacle outlet when not in use or before removable from stock tank.
6. Store filter indoor when not in use.
7. DO NOT RUN DRY! Always make sure entire filter is submerged before operating.

Instructions for use of the CleanFlow Stock Tank Filter

1. Open the CleanFlow Filter by pushing the tab on the side of the unit.
2. Remove the pump spout tube from inside the filter unit.
3. Route the cord through the cord exit hole.
4. Close the filter making sure the cord is exiting properly and insert the pump spout through the hole in the top of the filter.
5. Place the CleanFlow filter in the stock tank and run the pump cord up and out of the stock tank using the included cord clip to secure the cord to the tank.
6. After it is fully submerged, plug your new CleanFlow filter into a properly grounded electrical outlet.

Cleaning Filter Media

1. Unplug the pump and remove the CleanFlow stock filter from the stock tank.
2. Open the filter and unclasp the metal retainer holding the filter media in place.
3. Remove the filter media.
4. Fill pail with water from the stock tank and put the soiled filter media into this pail. This can also be done in your stock tank prior to washing the tank and dumping out the water.
5. Place soiled pre-filter material from pump assembly area and place the filter media into the pail.
6. Knead and swish the debris from the filter medias. If water becomes excessively dirty, dump it out and re-fill the pail with more water from the stock tank. Repeat rinsing process. (If a garden hose is near, you may rinse in this manner instead of using the bucket method.)
7. Check water intake on pump and clean if necessary.
8. Replace the filter medias and the pump into their locations.
9. Close the filter, making sure the pump cord is exiting properly through the side hole.
10. Place the filter back into the stock tank using the cord safety clip.
11. Use the bucket or hose method above if you do not plan to clean your stock tank when you clean the filter media.

Purpose of the cord safety clip
The purpose of the K&H cord safety clip is to help secure the cord of your CleanFlow stock tank filter to a stock tank.

Instructions to use the cord safety clip

1. Position your filter and determine where you would like the cord to exit the stock tank.
2. When you have determined where you would like the cord to exit, loop the cord into roughly the shape of the K&H Cord safety clip.
3. Place the looped Cord Safety Clip outside of the stock tank.
4. When the cord has been placed into the clip, push the clip with the cord over the side of your stock tank.

The clip should now be secured to your stock tank; the clip may slide side to side, but should remain clipped. The K&H Cord Safety Clip is designed to be used with the CleanFlow stock tank filter.

Instructions

1. Remove your K&H Clean Flow Stock Tank Filter and open the unit to expose threaded mounting port located at the top of the filter.
2. Locate the plug in the de-icer cord exit hole and remove, leaving attached to the lanyard for future warm weather filter use.
3. Holding the cord up, thread your K & H Clean Flow Tank De-Icer into the mounting port. When your de-icer is attached properly the cord should be facing the exit hole in the filter.
4. Place your filter with attached de-icer back into the stock tank.
5. Plug in the de-icer and filter pump.
6. When the de-icer is no longer needed in the filter as temperatures rise remove your de-icer from the filter and replace the plug in the cord exit hole. Place your filter back in the stock tank.
7. Store your Clean flow Stock Tank De-Icer in a clean dry area when not in use.
8. Always unplug heater and pump BEFORE removal from water.

Cleaning
You may occasionally want to check the heating element to ensure there is not excessive scale buildup. Excessive scale buildup is a natural occurrence and is the result of minerals in the water. If your de-icer has excessive buildup, remove the unit from the filter and run it under warm water and wash with a cloth and soapy water. If the scaling is difficult to remove in this manner, obtain a lime remover liquid. Simply soak the steel heating element in a shallow dish filled approximately 1/2" deep with the lime remover liquid. After soaking and cleaning, rinse thoroughly and follow the instructions listed above to re-install your de-icer.
