Use the FURminator deShedding Tool only as directed.

1. Be sure your horse is completely dry.
2. Because the FURminator deShedding Tool will extract an abundance of hair, position your horse in an open area.
3. With the edge and teeth of the tool angled toward the coat of your horse, GENTLY pull the tool across the coat in the direction of the horse's hair growth. Use the tool like a hairbrush and use long, gentle strokes. Avoid repeated strokes in the same area. Be extra careful near the horse's most sensitive areas (face, stomach, legs, genitals, and anus). DO NOT APPLY TOO MUCH WEIGHT OR DOWNWARD PRESSURE as your comb through the horse's coat. Deep or rough brushing can cause the horse's skin to become red and irritated. Horses with sensitive skin may suffer brush burn even with light combing. If you notice any redness or irritation on your horse's skin, immediately stop using the tool.

The time required to use the FURminator deShedding Tool on your horse will vary based on the breed and the condition of the coat.

Before using the deShedding tool, perform a COMPLETE physical inspection of your horse and identify:

1. Tangles or matting in the hair or coat. If your horse has any tangles or matting in the hair or coat, DO NOT USE the FURminator deShedding Tool.
2. Sores, cuts, bruises, abrasions, or skin conditions. Your horse's coat can hide existing sores, cuts, bruises, abrasions, or skin conditions, so be sure to perform a thorough inspection on your horse. If your horse has any sores, cuts, bruises, abrasions, or skin conditions, DO NOT USE the FURminator deShedding Tool. If you are in doubt of such conditions, seek advice from your veterinarian.

Excessive shedding may be caused by a horse's health and diet and should be discussed with a veterinarian. The FURminator deShedding Tool is designed to remove the loose winter coat. The tool does not cut or damage the top coat.
