What should I discuss with my veterinarian while considering Mitaban Dip?
Talk to your veterinarian about what type of outcome is expected. Have your veterinarian explain the other treatment options that may be available to treat your pet's condition. Understand what type of examinations will be necessary during the treatment period.
Tell your veterinarian if your pet has liver disease or will be exposed to any stressful activities during the treatment period. Stresses may include moving, changes in the number of family members, etc.
Notify your veterinarian of any other medications or supplements your pet is taking. Also if your pet has had any reactions to previous medications.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
If you miss a treatment, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next treatment, skip the one you missed and go back to the regular schedule. Do not apply two treatments at once.
What is the most important information I should know?
Animals treated with Mitaban Dip should not be subjected to stress for at least 24 hours after each treatment. Follow the directions very carefully and avoid getting Mitaban in the eyes. Mitaban is harmful if swallowed. If there is eye exposure, flush the eye with water for 15 minutes and contact a medical professional immediately. If ingestion occurs, contact a medical professional immediately. Do not get on skin or clothing.
Who should not take it?
Not for use in animals hypersensitive (allergic) to amitraz. Do not stress animals for at least 24 hours after application. The safety of Mitaban Dip on dogs less than four months of age and in pregnant or breeding dogs has not been determined. Toy breeds may be more susceptible to side effects and the dosage may need to be altered. Use with caution on animals with diabetes; amitraz may cause an elevated glucose level. Do not use in animals with deep bacterial infections of the skin or draining tracts. Do not use in rabbits.
What side effects may be seen when taking Mitaban Dip?
Some sedation may occur after treatment. The animal may not be able to handle stressful situations for up to 24 hours after treatment. Some mild itching may occur.
How is it stored?
Store in a tight, light-resistant, childproof container at room temperature (68-77°F). Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Undiluted amitraz is flammable. Dispose of any unused mixture by flushing down the drain. Do not re-use any mixture. Rinse the empty amitraz container with water and do not reuse. Avoid handling pets immediately after treatment.
What should I do if I know of or suspect there has been an overdose?
If you know or suspect your pet has had an overdose, contact your veterinarian immediately.
What should I avoid when giving my pet Mitaban Dip?
Consult your veterinarian before using Mitaban Dip with corticosteroids, or other immunosuppressant drugs.
