What is Strongid T?
Strongid T is an oral wormer for horses. "Wormer" is a term used to describe medications used to treat internal parasitic infections, usually of the digestive tract.

What are the benefits?

Strongid T is a very safe oral wormer used to treat gastrointestinal parasite infections in horses. Multiple doses, several weeks apart are often used to treat or prevent parasite infestations. Elimination of parasites must also include sanitation and prevention measures to ensure the animal does not become reinfected.

How does Strongid T work?
This broad-spectrum wormer removes and controls infections with adult strongyles (Strongylus vulgaris, S. edentates, S. equines), small strongyles, large roundworms (Parascaris equorum), and pinworms (Oxyuris equi) in horses. It works by paralyzing the worms.

Is there a generic equivalent available?
There are additional brand names for this medication.

How is it given?
Strongid T is a liquid suspension given by mouth. It is very important that Strongid T be shaken or stirred well before use.

Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian.

What results can I expect?
Strongid T will kill certain types of adult worms, but not immature worms. Therefore, a regular deworming program needs to be determined by you and your veterinarian. Strongid T will not reverse damage done to the stomach or intestines by the parasites.

Available in an easy-dose liquid, oral suspension. Caramel flavor.

What should I discuss with my veterinarian while considering Strongid T?
Horses are susceptible to many internal parasites. Few wormers will kill all of them. Therefore, a regular deworming program needs to be determined by you and your veterinarian. This program will be based on test results showing what worms your horse may have, and the horse's age, environment, exposure to other horses, general health status, and other factors.

What should I do if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to the regular schedule. Do not give two doses at once.

What is the most important information I should know?
Strongid T is a very safe product. It needs to be used in conjunction with a broad parasite control plan. Before using Strongid T, be sure to shake or mix it well.

Who should not take it?
Not for use in animals hypersensitive (allergic) to it or drugs similar to it. Do not use in severely debilitated animals. This medication should only be given to the animal for which it was prescribed.

Not for horses or ponies intended for food.

What side effects may be seen when taking Strongid T?
Side effects are extremely unlikely. If your horse experiences an allergic reaction to the medication, signs may include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs, or coma.

How is it stored?
Store at room temperature in a tight, light-resistant, and childproof container. Keep out of the reach of children and pets.

What should I do if I know of or suspect there has been an overdose?
If you know or suspect your animal has had an overdose, contact your veterinarian immediately.

What should I avoid when giving my pet Strongid T?
Consult your veterinarian before using Strongid T with any other medications, including vitamins and supplements, levamisole, and morantel, since interactions may occur. Observe for adverse reactions if used with organophosphates (insecticides).
