What is Neo-Predef with Tetracain?
Neo-Predef with Tetracain is an antibacterial powder medication used to treat certain ear and skin infections or conditions.

It is for dogs, cats and horses.

How does Neo-Predef with Tetracain work?
Neo-Predef with Tetracain is a combination of three drugs: neomycin, isoflupredone, and tetracaine. Neomycin is an antibiotic, isoflupredone is a corticosteroid, and tetracaine is a topical anesthetic. This combination of the three active ingredients work together at the site of infection or wound to kill bacteria, provide anesthetic relief, and to decrease inflammation. Isoflupredone has a potent anti-inflammatory effect and works blocking the production of substances that trigger allergic and inflammatory actions. Tetracaine has a numbing effect on the nerves in the area applied, to reduce discomfort.

How is it given?
Follow treatment instructions carefully, since incorrect treatment can result in recurring infections and damage to the ear. Neo-Predef with Tetracain is applied topically. Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty applying the medication, contact your veterinarian.

The ear or area of skin should be thoroughly cleaned and dried before treatment. For the ear, remove any debris, crusty material, etc., with a suitable nonirritating ear cleaning solution. For the skin, use a skin cleansing solution to clean the lesion and adjacent area. Clip any excessive hair from the ear or treatment area as directed by your veterinarian.

Apply the powder by compressing the sides of the container with short, sharp squeezes. Do not let the tip of the container come in contact with anything moist, including a moist lesion or skin.

Prevent ingestion of the medication. If ingested at high doses or for extended periods, corticosteroids can cause premature birth especially toward the end of pregnancy.

What results can I expect?
Neo-Predef with Tetracain works promptly to decrease the symptoms, and the effects last for hours. The tetracain and isoflupredone help to soothe the area and prevent further trauma from licking or scratching at the site. If improvement is not seen after 2-3 days of treatment, contact your veterinarian.

What should I discuss with my veterinarian while considering Neo-Predef with Tetracain?
Your veterinarian should examine your pet's ear to make sure the eardrum is intact.

Have your veterinarian or veterinary technician show you how to properly clean the ear or wound and apply Neo-Predef with Tetracain.

Notify your veterinarian of any other medications or supplements your dog is taking, and if your dog has had any reactions to previous medications. Also, tell your veterinarian if your pet is pregnant.

What should I do if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to the regular schedule. Do not give two doses at once.

What is the most important information I should know?
The area to be treated should be clean and dry before applying Neo-Predef with Tetracain. Neo-Predef with Tetracain should not be used in animals with perforated eardrums. Always follow your veterinarian's directions on the use of this medication.

Who should not take it?
Not for use in animals hypersensitive (allergic) to any of the ingredients. It should not be used in animals with a perforated eardrum. Not for use in pets with deep infections, puncture wounds, or burns.

What side effects may be seen when taking Neo-Predef with Tetracain?
In rare instances, an animal may be sensitive to neomycin, causing redness in the area the medication was applied. If so, contact your veterinarian. When used in the ear, you may see temporary loss of hearing or balance if the eardrum is not intact. If you see these signs, contact your veterinarian.

If ingested, or given at high doses or for prolonged periods of time, side effects related to the isoflupredone may be seen. The most common effect is an increase in the amount of drinking and urinating. Less commonly you may see an increased appetite and weight gain, panting, diarrhea, vomiting, and behavior changes.

If your pet experiences an allergic reaction to the medication, signs may include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs, or coma. If you observe any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately.

How is it stored?
Store at room temperature in a tight, light-resistant, childproof container at room temperature (68-77°F). Protect from moisture (do not store in the bathroom). Keep the cap on the bottle when not in use. Keep out of reach of pets and children.

What should I do if I know of or suspect there has been an overdose?
Adverse reactions and toxicities are unlikely if used according to directions. Hearing or balance could become impaired. If you know or suspect your pet has had an overdose, or if you observe any unusual signs, symptoms, or behaviors in your pet, contact your veterinarian immediately.

What should I avoid when giving my pet Neo-Predef with Tetracain?
Consult your veterinarian before using neomycin/isoflupredone/tetracaine powder with any other medications, including vitamins and supplements, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin, carprofen (Rimadyl), deracoxib (Deramaxx), or etodolac (EtoGesic), or gentamicin, since interactions may occur.

Do not administer other corticosteroids during treatment with this medication unless prescribed by your veterinarian. Prevent ingestion of the medication. If ingested at high doses or for extended periods, corticosteroids can cause premature birth especially toward the end of pregnancy. In dogs, rabbits, and rodents, corticosteroids can cause birth defects.
