Brown pond water

My wife gave me a Fishmate Pond Filter system for my birthday. The filter works great, but my water is still brown not crystal clear. Any suggestions.. Thx. Quinn

As a 13 year pond addict who lives around oak trees, I found that the tannins in the leaves that fall in/on the water will discolor the water to brown, but you can still see through the stain. If you remove the leaves promptly, there will be less stain; if not, you get brown water and decomposing leaves turning to sludge and nastiness. Most of the chemical clarifiers will not remove the stain. I have to resort a water change, and virtually re-start my pond after all the leaves have fallen. My pond is only about 700 gallons, so this is in the feasible range for my small pond. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your question. There are many reasons why pond water may not be crystal clear. You may have an excess of small debris in the water that needs more diligent mechanical media changes until the water clears up. You could try doing more water changes or increasing oxygen with an aerator or add a UV Clarifier. Do you have this bulb??

Have a Laguna pond steralizet/clarifier that needs a new uv bulb Model no. of unit is PT-1665 . Input: 12 vac-50/60 htz.( Don't know that you need that latter piece of info). Anyway bulb presently in unit reads SANKYODEDKI G25T8. Is 173/8 in. long PLUS 2 prongs either end. Diameter is around 15/16ths inch. Many thanks. Marie
