| Together with good filtration, UV clarifiers are a great way to maintain clear, clean water. UV clarifiers emit germicidal ultraviolet light similar to sunlight (UVC, the UV portion of light absorbed by the ozone layer) to help clarify green water associated with free-floating algae. |
Pond water containing free-floating algae is pumped into the clarifier and across a UV lamp. As the water is exposed to the ultraviolet light, algae flocculate. The clumped algal material is collected in the mechanical filter media and removed from the water column. The cleansing effect of UV clarifiers lets you see your fish, water, and the rocks below.
Keep in mind that no matter how effective, a UV clarifier still relies on regular pond maintenance and good husbandry to keep green water at bay. Address the conditions that encourage green water, such as excess nutrients and light, to get the most effective use out of your UV clarifier.
