Labrador RetrieverRimadyl® SUCCESS STORY:

Dog's Name: Scout
Breed: Labrador Retriever
Age: 9 years

Her story: Scout was diagnosed with hip dysplasia via the PennHip system (The University of Pennsylvania's Hip Improvement Program - one system that grades for hip dysplasia) at six months of age, and her owner was told that she would probably need a total hip replacement by the time she was 5. Even though Scout would eat 24/7 if she had her way, her owner watched her diet, made sure she had plenty of exercise, and made sure she got all the right nutrients. She also gave her a daily glucosamine/chondroitin supplement from the time she was 2 years of age.

Scout enjoyed life and ran around with her dog friends, swam a lot, and, although her running was a little crooked, nothing seemed to stop her. At 7 years of age, she started showing all the typical signs of arthritis: reluctance to go up or down stairs, stiffness after resting, and generally looking like she was in pain. So her owner took her to her veterinarian who examined her, took her history, took some xrays, and diagnosed her with arthritis. The veterinarian then prescribed Rimadyl® for her, and said to continue watching her weight, recommended a low impact exercise plan, and suggested giving her a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement.

Outcome: Scout is now 9 years of age, and is still running around like she did when she was younger. Her owner makes sure that she gets her blood tested every six months at her bi-annual checkup.
