Dog's Name: Fritz
Breed: Cocker Spaniel
 Age: 3 years
His story: The children picked the dog. They wanted one with large, floppy and hanging ears. Fritz was sweet and happy, and he showed it by the wag in his tail. But one day the children noticed that his tail hung limp, and he was rubbing his ears and shaking his head. The mother checked Fritz and noticed an odor and redness in his right ear. Later that day he was on the examining table at the veterinary clinic.
Outcome: The veterinarian examined the dog's ears for ear mites, inflammation, and/or foreign objects, and did a microscopic exam. The ear canal area was inflamed, and the doctor explained that the shape and size of those "wonderful" Cocker Spaniel ears provide the perfect warm and moist breeding ground for bacteria and yeast. He cleaned the ear and prescribed Mometamax®. Fritz was soon back to normal, and the family was careful to follow the other part of the veterinarian's advice, which was to keep his ears clean and dry by using a good ear cleanser on a weekly basis. Fritz recovered, and soon his tail was wagging again. Regular care of his ears kept him free of further ear infections.
