Her story: Kailee was a well-loved 2-year old Golden Retriever. She was the perfect family dog, except for one problem: every time she rode in the car, she got queasy and vomited. This was not only upsetting because of the cleanup involved, but it was obvious that Kailee was not comfortable in the car.

Kailee's owners took her to the veterinarian who worked on a plan to acclimate Kailee to car travel. This involved: slowly getting her used to being in the car while it was not moving, going on a short ride in the driveway, eventually driving around the block, then going for progressively longer rides. Kailee still got sick, though, on the longer rides. They were in a bind, because they were visiting relatives for the holidays and wanted to bring Kailee along. Their veterinarian suggested a prescription drug formulated to prevent vomiting due to motion sickness in dogs.

Outcome: Kailee's owners took an overnight trip before they headed to the relatives for the holidays. It seemed to be successful - for the first time Kailee did not vomit and even wagged her tail a few times as if to thank them. They are still working on getting Kailee used to car rides, though, and plan to take many trips from now until they want to go visiting again. They hope that next year she won't need any medication, and she will enjoy being with her family.
