Anole Facts

Green Anoles are native to Florida, as well as other Southeastern states.

Anoles are diurnal, meaning they are active during the day and sleep at night.

Green Anoles are carnivores, eating small bugs or spiders in the wild or small crickets in captivity.

Anoles need to eat daily, and can be fed as much as they are willing to eat.

Anoles need their prey to move in order to find it.

Female Green Anole
A female Green Anole.

In captivity, Green Anoles can live anywhere from 4 up to 8 years.

Male Anoles have a pink dewlap, or flap of skin, under their chin whereas a female doesn't always have a dewlap.

When a male Anole wants to show dominance, he will bob his head, which looks like he is doing pushups.

Green Anoles can change color from bright green to brown to grey, although being brown is a sign of an Anole being stressed.

Due to Anoles have color changing abilities they are often called "chameleons," but they are not related to chameleons.

Anoles have sticky feet which are used for climbing.

Anole's tails can detach to help them escape predators. It will only grow back once.
