| The Standard Poodle is the national dog of France, however, this breed originated in Germany as a water
retriever. There are three varieties of Poodle (Standard, Miniature, and Toy), from largest to smallest, but
these varieties denote size only - the Standard is the oldest of the three. Commonly portrayed having a proud
attitude, the Standard Poodle is fantastic with children and other pets, making him a great family companion.
The Standard Poodle is generally extremely easy to train and responds well to obedience training. He is very
intelligent and requires regular mental stimulation. Training, as well as play, is a good outlet for the energy
and exercise requirements this breed possesses. The Poodle requires daily grooming.

The Standard Poodle has a proud, yet playful expression. This squarely-built breed
has a long muzzle and dark, oval-shaped eyes. The ears are long, and feathered to hang close to the head.
The tail is usually docked, straight, and carried up; the Poodle's coat is curly, rough to the touch, and dense.
The hair of some Poodles may be corded (long, twisted, and rope-like). Other Poodles may be clipped in a number
of styles including the Puppy, Sporting, English Saddle, or Continental style. AKC-approved coat colors are blue,
gray, silver, brown, cafè-au-lait, apricot, white, black, or cream. |
